Identifying My Boat

Featured Replies

I recently got a Terry boat for free off of Craigslist.  I am trying to find out what kind of boat it is and what year it is.  I have looked online and found several pictures that look kind of like it but im not sure.  if anyone has any idea I would appreciate it. I have included pictures so that you can see what it looks like.

Thank You

Man, that is some serious project you have on your hands.

I have no idea what make or model it is.  It was obviously abandoned by someone.  It looks as though it has been awash for some time, probably along a shore where someone "salvaged" it.   Probably turned out to be more of a project than they wanted to handle.

But if you've got the time and ambition, you might be able to make a decent fishing platform out of it.  The place to start is with the transom.  It is probably fiberglass covered plywood, and the odds are high that the plywood is punky.   Drill some holes in various places and poke around with an ice pick or similar tool to check out the transom core.  If you find any soft wood, the transom is junk.

The other thing I noticed is that the rails are sagging, and someone propped them up with square plywood panels.  Those panels will need  to be replaced with "knees".  They provide support for the inside edge of the rail, but do not go down to the deck of the boat, leaving your deck open for easy cleaning.

You might end up with a gem, but you're going to put in a ton of sweat equity, and probably more than a few dollars.  The other possibility is to remove the top section from the hull and sandwich the top of the hull between a couple of pieces of wood, one inside and one outside, to stiffen it up.

From there, you can design and build storage compartments with decking to transform it into a bass boat.

I'm not trying to discourage you, but I want you to understand the task that lies ahead.

I know that it is going to be a lot of work and I do appreciate the feedback.  I think this will be a good father son project for my husband and son.  I would appreciate any help you can give.

Thanks again

Drop it off at Rhino's :wink2:

You may be able to track down information thru the state with the registration numbers. There should also be a hull ID# on the starboard stern. (right side rear).
