Skeet Reese Crankbait Rod Or Bass Pro Crankin' Stick

Featured Replies

I have a coupon at a local sporting goods store that would get me a Skeet Reese Crankbait rod for $69.99....or I can get the sale price at Bass Pro on their Crankin' Stick for $69.99.  So which is better for deep crankbaits, since money is the same price on each one?

I'm a new guy with virtually no experience however I was looking very seriously at the Skeet Reese rod and I think for $69.00 it's a fantastic opportunity. I would be all over it.

I don't personally care for the skeet rods, I would go for the bps.

You have tons of choices with the BPS stick and the customer service is top notch there so Id go that route. I have one for shallow divers.

I really like Bass Pro rods. I would say they are one of the best values for rods that you can get. I really like the Crankin stick. I have used mine for both medium diving and deep cranking.  I have a higher priced crankin rod for deep cranking now, but the Crankin stick did the job. I use it for a variety of things now like the C Rig, Square Bills, and ive used it for top water. I would def go with the Crankin Stick. If you are not in a rush, every once in a while they go on sale for 49.99 too.

I actually like the action on the 7' and 7'10" Skeet Reece rods.  They work great for keeping the fish hooked in heavy current.  The downside is they are heavy, which does not bother me, and the build quality is not quite as nice as other rods in the same price range.  I'd still take a BPS Crankin' stick over one for general purpose crankbait work.  The Crankin' Stick seems to have a better overall quality about it.  Another rod to check out in that price bracket is the ABU Veritas Winch rods.  I think I gave around 70-75 dollars for one new buying online from walmart last Fall.

I looked at a whole bunch of skeet rods once, and the guides where so badly assembled on the rods that I've never picked one up again.  Every single rod had crooked guides from the Skeet line so examine it closely before you buy. If that stuff doesn't bother you then go for it, good price.

The Skeet Rod is good but heavy like most glass rods are.  I have heard great things about the BPS cranking sticks for the price.  I don't think you can go wrong with either.
