Ruffins Pond Fredericksburg, Virginia

Featured Replies

Anyone know if it is legal to fish Ruffin's Pond? I'm assuming it is because of the VDGIF posting about its snakehead population but I'd like to know before I commit to checking it out. Anyone with any advice would be great.

It's not listed on DGIF's site, but if it were me I would contact the Fredericksburg Office and ask...

Your technically need permission to fish there if your not a member of the community but we have a member Dhami013 fishes it quite often with no trouble. But I guess fish at your own risk I guess. I myself I'm looking forward to fish there too so any info so let me know. I know allot of people fish of the bridge on rt2. If also is illegal know please let me know.

I'll be sure to let you know if I find anything out. May try to drop a jon boat in during the upcoming weeks. we shall see

I see people pulled over on the side of RT. 2 fishing there all the time in the summer. i doubt anyone would give you a hard time. If anything someone might just ask you to leave. No big deal.

Sbennett9- I've seen people putting in at Ruffin's for the last two weeks or so like crazy. Have you been out there yet? I've heard the warden was out there I think Saturday?

Ruffins Pond is in fact owned by VDGIF, it used to be a private pond for industrial, and being that Massaponax Creek flows into Ruffins, there are snakeheads, because Massaponax Creek was stalked with snakeheads illegally, anyways, people always fish Ruffins, great bass fishing, I like launching my canoe out in the deeper areas, but if you take a boat out, I was told that the land is strictly no trespassing, so make sure not to get off your boat.
