Newb Question

Featured Replies

My girlfriend and i got on this subject earlier this week and im just now getting around to asking about it. Its probably a dumb question so try to be patient with me. I realize that many organizations maintain ponds such as placing artificial tree, bushes, and stocking fish. My question is how does fish get to a pond that has no river or stream running to it? Has someone stocked it at some point in time? Someone help, its been bugging me since i questioned myself about it.

Fish find ways into bodies of water, with or without our help. High water events are one of the easiest ways for them to get into other bodies of water. Waterfowl and other birds that spend time in the water can move fish, mainly the eggs. Fish can be accidentally be moved in bait buckets by angles who don't know what kind of bait they've caught or store bought bait.

Life finds a way. Snakeheads can slither on land!!!

Agreed.....birds and shore mammals (racoons) are major contributors to stocking many small ponds with different species of fish eggs. However, nature selects which of those species will survive in that particular eco-system.

Life does find a way, but snakeheads don't slither (well the fry can, but not adult snakeheads.)

I've had this theory for a long time: If there is a pipe leading to or away from a urban pond, there's largemouth in there (at least in SE Virginia). So far i havent been wrong! a tx rigged ribbon tail always seems to do the trick when i have 30 minutes between places i have to be. I agree with the posts above, Nature has a way whether its through predator animals or highwater. Love it....bass everywhere i look!

Most of the time guys will put bass in ponds.

Sometimes Mother Nature takes over as stated above.

At times I have wondered about this as well. Interesting answers.
