Howdy guys!  

I am in the market for a new heavy cover frog rod and was wondering what your favorite frog rods are and if you have any suggestions! 

I am looking at....

*** *** 7'3" Heavy

Halo Fishing Twilite Red 7'6" Medium Heavy

Cashion Rods 7'4" Medium Heavy

If you guys have any other rods that have worked well for you let me know!!

B.T.W. I was going to pair it up with a Quantum Smoke 151 7.3:1 with 65lb braid!

I have zero experience with those rods listed above and we dont know your max budget.

I use a Powell Enurance 725. 7'2"H

But there are other rods out there that i would use too.

Dobyns Champion 725

Any St. Croix Rod

Castaway Skeleton 7'3 H

Shimano Crucial 7'2 H

Powell Max Frog rod 735

Powell 704, Powell 714, Powell 705

Hey, you can also search "frog rods"i on the search feature here and will see that this is a common topic, there are pages and pages of good stuff.

In the type of cover commonly found in MN waters, the Dobyns 735 is a perfect fit.

Not sure about any of them but going by the cover around here, the H is the only one I would think of. Though personally I don't like XF but that shouldn't bother you

There are lots of "perfect fits" I use a St.Croix 7' MH premier great feel, lotsa backbone very light, under 150.00.30# braid on a tour reel gets the job done for me.Good luck.

I used a MH/F 7'3" Veritas and a 7'2" Heavy/F Compre as my frog rods last season.  Both can be found for under 100.

I have used a lot of different rods for frogging, some I liked, some I didn't. IMHO if it's 7' and on the stouter side of MH, or a H power with a little tip.............frog away.

I just picked up a Powell Diesel MH/XF. I haven't gotten to use it yet, but it does seem like a nice rod. Would probably look real nice paired with that Smoke too.

You DON'T need to spend alot of money on a frog rod.You can get by fine with a 7 ft to 71/2  H action Ugly Stik! You don't need a high end rod because it is a reaction bite not a feel bite! There are alot of rods on the low side $$$,from $39 to 50 bucks.

Oh I forgot this= The money you save on the rod you now can put into a GOOD reel. The reel is what matters more in this case,buy a good reel with a good drag!Don't go cheap on the reel!!!!

cheap rods will not get you the backbone/tip action combination you need in frog fishing. you need the backbone to pull bass out of cover/ set the heavy wire hooks. youll need the fast tip to create the right action with hollow bodies.  i recommend the quantum tour rojas its got a great tip. youll feel the difference

Evan 8,I hate to disagree with you! If you read my post again I posted 7 to 7 1/2 ft. H action! On a H action rod you will have a fast tip!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have fished with less $$$ rods for frogs and I have no problems.I have no problem setting the hook or pulling in all the weeds also.I guide and when we frog fish these are the rods we use!

x2 I would agree too.  A lot of under 100 and even under 75 dollar rods could handle frog duties in a heartbeat.  As long as it has the backbone H/F or MH/F and 7'.

G Loomis TWFR854C frog rod, 7'1" lots of backbone but that nice tip for walking, you can find them for a decent price aswell. In my eyes I want a very good quality frog rod, some of the biggest bass are caught on frogs, I don't want the rod being the reason I missed that fish.I've fished way to many frog rods that were just broomsticks, too long, too stiff, then I found a proper frog setup and it has become one of my favorite rigs to fish.

My buddy has the *** 7'3 Heavy for frogs ,he really likes it.

When I throw frogs, I use a Phenix UMBX700H 7'casting.

Another great rod I use is Phenix's Recon 2 PHXC715 Heavy casting which is a 7'1" rod. These rods have got good backbone and have soft tips alowing for better action when working the frog. Both rods are also good for throwing other baits like soft plastics and reaction baits as well.

 

 

Savvy 735c....frog rod needs backbone and tip, not sensitivity. However, since I'm using braid ( which increases sensitivity) I can pull double duty with this rod. You don't need to drop crazy cash on a frog rod, I got the savvy used for $90 and it does everything a frog rod needs to do
