I have 2 baitcaster reels and rods.... I have a garcia pro max and a garcia revo sx... the problem I have is I have nothing for light weight things such as rooster tails.. weightless senkos ect... would I be better off keeping both baitcasters or giving up the pro max for a light possibly ultra light spinning reel and rod? Or keep what I have and save up for a good decent spinner set? Thanks for the input.

My opinion is that everyone needs a spinning setup for finesse applications; Rapalas, split shotting and senkos for instance. Although many will use casting gear for Senkos, I only use spinning equipment for that.

Yeah, the big question I really have is if I do it which set up to get rid of... the pro max 7:1.1 on a berkly lightning medium rod or my revo sx 6:1.1 on my varitas MH 7' rod.... one set up cost about 260 $ the other about 110 $.... seems like an obvious choice money wise... or doni mix it up keep my varitas and the pro max.ect.... at a cross roads here lol

Don't get an Ultra light if you plan to bass fish with it. not that you cant catch bass but you'd be better of with a Med or Med/Lt spinning rod if your intentions are solely for bass.  You'd be pretty ticked if you tried horsing in a monster bass with an ultralight only for it to take you under the boat and saw your line off because you couldn't control the fish better.  The fight would be fun, the results could be tragic.

That said, you should keep your 2 bait casters and get a nice all around spinning out fit for yourself. I'm a firm believer that finesse fishing is far better and more productive with a good spinning outfit. I don't finesse fish with bait casters ever but that is me.

Just learn how to cast lighter baits on your baitcaster.  Loosen the spool a bit and ease up the brakes.  I personally never understood "light" specific baitcasting reels.  I can throw any size bait I want on my reels with a little practice (few casts).

keep both rods, youll thank me down the road when you dont have to tie on a new lure every time...

 

and save up your money for a good spnning rod. you can have a nice combo for $150

Agree to everyone who states keep the two combos and get a new spinning outfit.  ML/XF or M/F is what I would recommend. 

You can put a cheaper daiwa reel on a lightening shock rod for under $60 and keep your baitcasters. My guess is those reels could toss those baits with the right cleaning and brake settings.

An SX is a great reel for casting lighter baits. My gen 3 is anyway.

I'd pass on an ul set up unless I had a number of other combos to use.  I'm not fan of inline spinners on ul for bass, I seem to catch more blue gill and dinks, not that the occasional bigger doesn't come along.  

Thanks for all the answers so far, I'm fairly new to the game of strictly bass fishin... use to just toss out and take whatever bit pretty much... from what I've gathered from this is either a) my reel should be able to cast lighter lures if I'd clean and lube them properly... just get a med/lt spinning set up.. lol either way as I said thanks for the info so far.

So any tips on the truth or best method? Could my medium set up cast light lures like the rooster tail ect? And cast it a good distance? I only bank/shore fish cause I have no boat lol.

Go back to one of the basic guy rules, one of the rules you learned in shop class and use the right tool for the job.  Yeah, you probably could lube and adjust your reels so that they could cast lures less than 1/4 oz.

A lighter action rod would help that process some.

 

Or you could buy a mid level spinning rig, one that is made for tossing sub quarter ounce baits.  Your choice.  Me - I go spinning for baits less than a quarter ounce because it is just easier.
