Muddy Water Blues

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Help!! The water i usually fish (Erie Canal, Syracuse, New York) is usually quite clear during the summer and late spring and is great for sight fishing. We had a pretty wet April this year, but every other water body has gone back to normal in terms of clarity. From experience, the bass tend to be difficult to catch at the canal when the water is muddy. We've had a good dry 2 weeks now... AND ITS STILL CHOCOLATE MILK!!! Does anybody know of the possible reason for this, or have this happen to them with a certain fishery? Any advice and/or knowledge is appreciated.

Something must still be feeding it unless its got carp in it

Tons of carp. but still, I know some bass will be biting, it just won't be very consistent. wondering why the water stays so muddy for so long...

Contact your state's department of fisheries and ask them.

After you find out their input you can call your county's extension serivce for their opinion.

Throw black plastics or black crankbaits.

I could try that, but idk if they would have much info. it isn't really recognized as a fishery, so nobody really keeps track of it. I could try it though.

Fish darker bulkier baits with patience, give them time to find the bait and see it so accuracy is crucial, don't be affraid to get right into the cover, bass tend to spook alot less in milky water as the milky surroundings make them feel alot more secure, it also holds water temp much better

Good luck
