Any of you guys go out rock bass fishing? Every year we have a rock bass tournament and I have my baits that catch'em but I'd like to know what you guys like to use so I can try some new stuff out.

 

Small jigs and grubs along with spinnerbaits work for me.

I don't target them but this past fall I couldn't keep the boogers off a 3/16 oz swim jig

Anything bright colors, especially chartruese. I catch them regularly on chartruese pepper zoom lizards and 3 inch chartruese grubs.

Any thing a 6lb largemouth will bite, so will a 6" rock bass.

I haven't targeted them for a few years, but when I did I was using a split-tail grub on a 1/16 oz. jighead because I did most of my fishing with that lure back then. But, as has been said above, they'll take anything, although I'd use smaller lures even though they often hit lures meant for bigger fish.

There's a stream by my way that has some decent pools. Smallmouth, largemouth, pike and dace abound - but nothing of any great size. There is also a good pop. of rockys. Some days you can catch a ton of 'em on a 2" smoke/sparkle curly tail on a 1/16 oz. ball head jig. Especially in the spring.

3" Senko's are tough to beat.

Wacky rigged finesse worms and 4" senkos seem to get me the most Rockies but I've caught them on about anything a bass/walleye/pike will eat.  I LOVE catching them!

 

Drop shot a 3" senko or 4" roboworm.

BTW.................they are not bad eating either. I have had them a few times, and they taste just like bluegills. A little more "head and bone" than a gill,  and you'll get more meat off a similar sized gill, but if I am keeping fish, the rockies go in the bucket too. I may be in the minority here, but I like them. I also like catching them on UL spinning equipment. Non-stop action all day. Great fish for kids to too, cast........reel in rock bass............repeat, until they get sick of it.
