I was picking up some new Gamakatsu hooks the other day and noticed that they come in a variety of colors.  What is the reason for this?  Are there particular situations that call for specific colors of hooks, or is it just a personal preference thing?

I don't think it matters. When the red hook craze I jumped on board, but found the whole thing to be

a marketing ploy without any noticable results other than the paint disappearing!

 

 

 

 

i dont bother with hook color they can come in orange for all i care lol

Red is supposed to simulate blood or injured baits but everything works the same for me

It really does not matter, however if you are going to be fishing a very big visible hook, you might as well use red to look like blood
