Featured Replies

Any tips on fishing fast moving river? I can sight the fish but I cant get them to bite. Im not sure what type of fish they are but I am certain that they are spotted bass or large mouth bass because of the black stripe on the side.

Are you boat or bank fishing? If in a boat, do you know how to "slip" a river system? This is simply a technique of boat control where you keep your bow directed up-stream and run your engine just fast enough to slip backwards, slower than the current. This allows you to get your bait down to the fish - which are located in eddies and backwaters - and keep your bait in the strike zone longer. If you unfamiliar with this system, google Dan Gapan.

I don't fish rivers anymore but I do fish the ICW which is like a river and inlets.  Our inlet is about the fastest water in South Florida, the Coast Guard has reported 6-12 knots depending on tide, other inlets run about 4 knots.  True about the water direction, at times near the shore it can run in the opposite direction, and that's when it gets fun.  I'm fishing about 10- 15' of water, I like to throw against the current with a bait that gets down low like jig, be real careful not to snag which I've done hundreds of times, but that's where the fish are.
