Anyone Use The Kistler Carbon Steels?

Featured Replies

Wondering how these rods stack up. Anyone compared them to the omens, bucoos or even a savvy? Searched several forums and not much about them, good or bad.

thanks

Dave

I too am interested in how they are.  Might pull the trigger on the crankbait rod.

From the little I have researched, people seem to like them.  I may be wrong.

The brand is tainted. Their rods have not lived up to the hype nor stood the test of time.

The carbon steel rods aren't bad but you can do a lot better in that price range and the warranty is almost non-existant. Kistler got a bad reputation for bad blanks and not making good on warranty claims, they had some great blanks from Batson and then they found a cheap blank that had serious breakage issues to the point they came close to folding up. The new KLX made with the NFC blanks have been getting a lot of good reviews as well as the Z-Bone but if you are looking at the $100 dollar price point, well stay away from Kistler as you will do better with just about any other manufaturer.

I guess i have been lucky--I have 3 of the carbon steel rods that i have been using for 2+ yrs and so far i could not be happier with them--i would not hesitate to buy the new carbon steel rods Kistler is offering based on the performance of the 3 that i have

Had one (7'6" flipping stick) for a little under 2 weeks and returned it.  Wasn't a fan.

got a couple to try, worse that can happen is they'll be catfish rods.

Or a rod to give fishing partner instead of the good ones

Hmmmm

The brand WAS tainted... Not the case anymore at All with the KLX OR Z Bone rods. I cannot speak for the Carbon steels I don't personally own any but it's not fair to judge a company on the past and not give them a second chance when they have changed a lot of things. The NFC blanks they use now on the KLX and Z bone are second to none.

If you think they are "tainted" you're about 3-4 years behind. I have about 20 rods from Kistler. Sensitive and strong. Among my sons and I, we have 40 plus rods. None ever broke and the warranty is reasonable.but we haven't needed it. We've landed bass over 13 pounds.

I have a $25 gift card for them and I am thinking of giving them a shot.  I want a crankbait rod.

I'm going to purchase 3 klx rods next friday (payday).  I emailed the company and Trey Kistler emailed me back.  Was very thorough and patient with my questions.  Pretty amazing when the owner contacts you.

I've read about all the problems but I'm willing to give them a shot.

You won't be disappointed.

You won't be disappointed.

Do you have klx rods?

Which ones?  How would you compare them as opposed to other rods in their price range and above?

I've heard they compare very favorably to rods costing upwards of 300... I cant wait to put them to the test against my champ extremes.  I'm going with the - KLX Mark Rose Offshore 6XD, 5XD & Lipless Cranking

- KLX Texas/Carolina Rig Worm Jig Heavy 7' and  KLXFJCW76H to use as my flipping stick.

rods came yesterday. Nice clean look to the rods. Lightweight. Looks to be a good rod for $75.

Maybe rain will stop one day so I can try them out on the water.
