Braid On Stradic Fj?

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I have the new sunline sx-1 braid in 10# test coming tomorrow for my new stradic fj and was wondering how to put it on? Should I use a mono backing (what # test) or should I use a small piece of black tape? The reel is a 2500 and I will be using it with a fluro leader for drop shot. I don't use braid alot but after watching Arron Martens using it I figured I try it out up Erie. Thanks!

I put on backing, I try to match as close as possible to the diameter of the braid.  It is up to you on how much backing you want, I usually do about 50%.

X2. You're going to love it on that new sweet setup.

My spinning reels pull double duty as inshore saltwater rigs so I fill completely with braid. I use one wrap of electric tape then make sure I cinch the knot down tight before spooling the rest. Works great for me!

6' momo and blood knot to the braid and fill er up, thats how all mine are setup, in a year or two, I will turn it around on the spool and be fishing brand new braid again for another year or 2. Use a fluoro leader no heavier than the braid and you will never loose your braid till you want to trim it!! Just the way I run.

It doesn't make any difference whether backing is used or not, tape or tie, or knot of choice, as long as what you do is done correctly.  I go straight braid without any backing, my preference is blue painter's masking tape.  The line doesn't last too long down here, getting cut off on pylons, trim tabs and engine props, lots or rocks and coral, so I do a fresh respool when needed.
