Hollow Body Frog Hooks

Featured Replies

I always hear people say to increase hook-ups you should bend the hooks of a hollow body frog upward. Does this actual increase hook ratio? Does the frog stay weedless? Also, how much should you bend the hooks? Thanks for your input.

They are really tough to bend but I usually bend them up so there is barely daylight between the hook and the bait. It doesn't take much maybe a 1/16"-1/8" This is on spro popping frogs. They are just as weedless  after the bending as they are before hollow body frogs usually always land hook points up because of the weight is on the belly of the bait.

It easily doubled my hook up ratio.

This is what I do as well. You don't have to bend them far to make a difference in hook ups.

While I've never felt the need to bend my frog hooks, you can easily do it by using two pair of pliers. Grasp below the barb and the other just past the bend toward the eye of the hook. You should be able to tweak it just up to where you need it to be. Let us know how it works out for you.
