How To Wreck A Cumara In 5 Easy Steps

Featured Replies

1:  Watch your brother in law chuck his lure about 30 feet into the trees on shore ( He has to think bass nest in the trees )

2:  After watching him break off lure take pity on him because you can't stand watching him try to tie a knot and hand him one of your rods.

3:  Watch him chuck your lure on your rod 30 feet into the trees on shore

4:  Watch in amazement as he grabs the rod 2 feet down from the tip and pulls until that little 2 foot section of rod is almost at a 90 degree angle and at the same time realize that you gave him your frickin Cumara and before you can say a word SNAP.

5:  Fight every instinct in your body to kill him cuz you can't replace a gen1 Cumara.

Ouch that's rough. I try and explain to my friends that my rods aren't ugly sticks and you can't bend the rod 90 degrees if you get snagged and to try and shake the rod around at different angles to free the snag. Hope you can get the rod replaced maybe you'll like the new cumaras.

Wow!  Too bad.  Obviously he doesn't know the first thing about fishing.  If he does, then you need to be kicking some butt.  :teeth3:

That totally sucks.  I broke a Falcon Expert, but at least it was an unfortunate accident.  Can't replace that rod either.

Sorry about your rod.

I take a lot of my friends fishing. I have two loaner rods, and Ugly Stick with a Cabela's Salt Striker, and a Penn Captiva combo. Each retails for about $80 and are lined with braid so that I know I'm generally getting back whatever lure they decide to throw. There's only two people I know that I would let try any of my other equipment.

Ouch..Good thing it's a shimano.  You can always send to shimano and get a new one for replacement for free.

of course I dont do that, but how is proper way to get a lure back, not to sound dumb, I use tug it to the left or right, and it comes free, if not i cut it and go get it when i am doing fishing that spot( if I am able to wade a bit from the shore.

Again not to hijack but  I rescently broke a  new cumara, I had the receipt so I took it back that way, but if I didnt, am I understanding that even a year or 2 in, IF it breaks I can take it to any shimano dealer and the give me a new one,  SO sorry to go OT but was about to make my own thread and saw this

And to top it off, the day before I showed him that when you are hopelessly stuck, point the rod at the lure, put your thumb on the spool so it can't move and pull straight back until you break the line with no stress on the rod. But NOOOOOOOO. Local BPS Gave me my choice of Crucials as a replacement since they don't carry the new Cumaras so I took one as a replacement rather then deal with Shimano and I'm gonna make the Brother in law buy me a Cumara, that he will never touch. By the way, this was a spinning rod that he was so bad with and when I handed it to him I didn't look close and thought it was a Carbonlite. Oh well, live and learn. Good fishing all!!!

Honestly, I would have lost my mind. But then again - my rods, are my rods.

The only other guys I would even let use my rods, are the ones that I know, have the resources to replace them if they broke them, and wouldn't be trying to make excuses to get out of it.

Sometimes we don't do as we'd like.  I am anal about my gear.  My youngest grandson (10 years old) wanted to use one of my baitcassting outfits.  I let him choose among those I had taken.  Now he thinks it is his.  MSRP for the combo would be about $400.  I may have to reconsider.  :teeth3:

when i get stuck, i strip line out of the reel, wrap it several times around an oar handle, knife, net handle, or whatever, and then pull on that... this way im leaving the rod and reel out of the equation, avoiding damage to both of them....

Dammmmmmm!!!! Sorry bro! This is exactly why I own a few ugly sticks!!!

I can't believe anyone would be that careless or rough with someone else's gear.  Maybe I shouldn't say that because he obviously was, but good grief.

I just hope he offered to pay for a new one immediately afterward.

This is the exact reason I have a few loaner rods.

sorry for that bro!!! that only  takes 1st to trying to be a nice guy and letting a close family member use an top notch outfit and having them poke and prod on the river while the plastic worm, hook and lead weight are lodged between rocks, which is a total of about 1 dollar!!! and evvvvvvverybody on the forum knows the sound im talking about when your rod tip scrapes rock on the river!!! :cry3:

I sure did get a chuckle out of that, but I'm sure you didn't!
