Leader Question

I can't imagine that a 2' leader is less effective catching bass than a 6' leader, but a 6' leader gives you more opportunity to retie baits without retying the leader.

I second that. I personally do about 4'. Probably only need about a foot.

5-6 feet is generally what I run.

I'll vary my leader length. When I was fishing really clear water I pulled three lengths off the spool, stretched each between my outstretched arms and used that. Don't think it made much of a difference than when I used a shorter leader.

In my normal waters I'll use anywhere from 4-6 feet.

A rods length.

I like to tie the leader about 6" above the reel and starting with around 4" hanging over the tip.

With this set-up the knot never comes into play when casting.

I don't like a knot going thru my guides, I use about 20" leader.  I'll use a duolock if I'm fishing lures with exposed hooks.  It takes very little time to tie a fresh leader on.  One thing I've been noticing lately when putting on a fresh 30 or 40# leader, which I do every morning, the knots do not always cinch down well even being really moist.  If I tie my leader on at my fishing, rather than at home, the humidity in the air gives me a perfect cinch on the first try.
