Are you sure these are bass at 30'?

We had the fish finder on while moving the boat over the deeper part of the water and it showed bigger fish, I guessed there carp or catfish

I use a count down jointed rapala for vertical jigging. It really works great.

Rapala makes a count down crankbait.  They work without losing action.

Positive they are bass, I am catching them right now on of ALL things a hair jig. Lake had 85 boats on it the other night at 8pm and its not that large, probably part of the reason a hair jig works. They are certainly not all bass but theres bass on this piece of structure.

Im going to get some 10 and put it on the crankn rod to see what happens.

You know I'd be throwing a swimbait. LOL

It honestly depends on what type of structure you are throwing to and what you believe is down by the fish. If you think it is just rock then I would not hesitate to throw smaller diameter line such as 10 or 12 pound. It will allow you to get the lure down to it's true running depth.

Then what's all the fuss about... just drive a little closer to where you want to cast!

I would try strolling/long lining to get your bait deeper. Short of the 10xd or waiting for a countdown to sink, there aren't any other option at that depth, crankbait wise.

This. We do this all the time on Douglas Lake, and it works great.

I build 25+ ft crankbaits but for practicality, I like a 4.5 or 5" hollow belly swimbait on a 3/4oz jig head, exposed hook, thrown on 20 lb braid.  It's just simple to use and is versatile for any depth.  Cast it out, let it hit bottom, and slow roll it back.  It gives you longer contact with the bottom than any deep crankbait and bigger bass love them.
