"Powell TiMax Series Rods

Retail $349.00

Are you an angler that absolutely will not settle for less than top notch? As Powell's flagship Bass rod, the TiMax series takes performance into the stratosphere. With blanks constructed using the latest generation of high modulus Maxumfiber material, you'll be able to experience the pinnacle of lightweight sensitivity. To insure the utmost in durability, Powell uses the exclusive Maxumfiber X Tape construction process in this series. This process involves using special 3 millimeter 40 to 46 ton Japanese graphite tape wrapped at opposing 45 degree angles both on the inside and outside of the blank. This results in an extremely strong, durable rod that will withstand the stress of hard hook sets and heavy loads. There’s nothing on the PLANET that rivals this rod in this price range, PERIOD.

To compliment such an extreme blank design, the finest components from Fuji are utilized. Each rod features cutting edge 2 piece Fuji SK2 reel seats for maximum blank contact, and Fuji K-guides with true Titanium frames and SIC inserts for the utmost in light weight, strength, and corrosion resistance. Each rod also features a ported blue anodized aluminum tube located between the Grade A split cork grips to enhance cosmetics, balance, and durability.

A warranty plan exclusive to this series will give customers additional peace of mind. Should your rod break for any reason, a one-time “no questions asked” FREE replacement will be offered. Any additional mishaps with incur a warranty replacement fee of $99."

Oh my.  It sounds like Powell is going to step into the high end rod arena.  I'm looking forward to a review.  ICAST can't come soon enough.

Personally, I always thought they were in the "high-end" arena. There's more to a rod's classification than price.

Still, this rod is a touch out of my price range.

I'm a big Powell fan and i'm glad they are coming out with a high end rod but I wish they would have done something else with the handle. The grip and fighting butt are the same as all their other rods and I hate the aluminum piece. You can buy similar pieces at rod building suppliers and they seem cheesy to me. I do like the reel seat, guides and warranty though.

I agree, the handle is a bit gaudy looking, but the rest looks awesome. And if its better than the Endruance, I can't even imagine.

The aluminum on the rod seems kind of gimmicky. (And will suck when fishing in the cold weather up north) Unless they use the metal down below to better balance the rods.

Otherwise, all of the other components on the rod does spark some interest!

I think the aluminum is more for balance.

I meant no disprespect to Powell rods.  I have six of them myself and have encouraged others to try them out on this forum since 2006.  For rods less than $200 or so,  I think Powells are right there with the best of them.  However, I also have a few G.Loomis GLXs.  There is a difference between Powells and a GLX/NRX level rod, though once you reach a certain price the improvements become less and less.  I'm thinking Powell is trying to create a rod that competes with that class of rod and if it is anything like their previous rods, I'm sure it will.

I think you and ec1 may be onto something here.  The main complaint I have heard from others about Powell rods over 7 feet long is that they are somewhat tip-heavy.
