I've been having some problems with my yo zuri hybrid line and wanted to know if anybody else had the same complications? I got 14 lb test and its been breaking around or in the reel. I've gotten a few birds nest but not a crazy amount, does that have anything to do with it? Ive lost a few lures and a fish or two and im not happy about that   this is also my first baitcaster, maybe im doing something wrong? All input is appreciated!

Do you leave your line out in the sun exposing it to UV? Do you expose it to extreme temperatures? Are there any nicks in your guides? This is not a common issue with yo-zuri, the stuff is actually pretty strong line.

 

Birdsnests can weaken the line and cause problems. I don't know how bad yours are getting, but I would imagine they would have to be kinked pretty bad for it to cause a large array of problems.  

i do leave my supplies in my car which gets smokin hot while not in the garage. But I know other people who do the same and it hasnt seemed to effect theirs much, if at all. Are different lines effected in different ways? By the way, what line do you use? (to all readers, not just Virtuoso)

If I were to guess, that is your problem right there. That heat can seriously weaken your line. Some lines can tolerate it more than others. I use mostly fluorocarbon, but have mono, braid and copoly for certain techniques that call for it. Mostly mono for topwater and braid for frogging. I have yozuri on one of my spinnerbait rods and it does the job well.

ur kinking the line when backlashing.  i'd recommend braid. it doesn't backlash as easily and when you do it doesn't compromise ur whole spool ie cost you time/money/lures/and fish

How so? Braid can backlash just as bad as any line and in my experience the backlashes are much more difficult to remove.

What test of braid? On a baitcaster my minimum is 30, if you go lighter your asking for issues. Braid avoids memory which can cause a backlash in a hurry.

TK22, I would guess that weak spots from backlashes are the problem. A little overrun won't hurt anything, but one that cinches up tight can cause damage. I don't care for braid and would suggest removing 50 yards or so and respooling. YZ is strong and cheap, and the issues you're having are not typical. Good luck.

When you do have a backlash, pick through it carefully and don't pull the line hard. If you pick through it slowly and don't allow a bunch of kinks, most bash lashes won't cause your line to kink up
