Painted Plywood Floor

Featured Replies

Does anyone have a painted plywood floor in your boat? How has it held up? What type of paint did you use? Is it too hot to step on barefoot in the summer? The rear section of my floor's carpeting has a rip, and I'm tired of carpeting every few years. Thanks.

wood holds up great just seal it with like thompsons water seal or so....we did that and painted some wood and its now the transom on my john boat...we treated it and painted it one time and so far its still holding up great 6 years later...not sure if makes a difference but it only sees saltwater use...well besides the boat being uncovered in my back yard lol

if you go that route add sand, it will be slick if not

I have silica sand left over from our pool filter. Would that work? It's a very fine sand.

I talked to a guy at Sherwin Williams, and he said I need to use marine paint. He said porch and floor paint will not hold up very long due to all the water. Do you guys agree?

Maybe a porch and deck enamel.  No matter, if you use the boat often, you will wear the paint off the heavily trafficked areas.  The non-skid is a good suggestion.  The material be it sand, ground rubber or whatever will take a lot of the abuse, thus sparing the paint.  You may still need to touch up places periodically.

Thanks guys. I just ordered the white Rustoleum Marine Topside Paint from Amazon.

Oops!! I just realized it's an oil base, so I cancelled it. I wound up buying Dutch Boy porch and floor paint from Menards.
