Is this rod any good? Im looking to buy a new rod for my Abu Garcia Black Max Baitcasting reel. The lightning rod is on sale at Wal-Mart for $35. Should i go with this or something else in that price range?

You won't find much better for that money.

I have one in the rig as a loner. Some of my buds are brutes and are rough on tackle. Still in one piece.

Regular price at my Wal-mart was $40. I have been scoring some pretty good deals at Wal-mart lately in the way of fishing stuff.

Walmart has the Lightning Rod Shock for the same price, $39. It's a bit better than the regular Lightning Rod. I have some and love 'em!!!! Either way, either one, great rod for the money. You will love it!

I have six Lightning Rods, 3 - spinning, 3 - casting. They're great rods. I've been fishing with a Lightning Rod since the 80's. I upgrade as new models come out. I've never had one fail on me. I also like the BPS Tourney Special spinning rods. I think those run in the $50 range. The Lightning Rod is my main rod.

If you are going to get a Lightning Rod, make it a shock.  A few dollars more but they have some added stuff that makes it worth the money.

I've fished with Lightning Rods for years. I absolutely love them. The shock series is what I currently have my Lews MG on. Super sensitive. I can feel every turn of a blade on a spinnerbait and every wiggle of a crankbait as I'm reeling them in. Strikes are definitely detectable.

The shock is a bit beefier, engineered for super lines, and has something called a "strike amplifying tip". Its also a split grip handle.

Plus, it comes in an awesome metallic burnt orange color, lol.

That's the one thing I didn't like about the regular one too. I really want a split grip handle.

For $40.00 buck its a good price, plus i like the design like more exspensive rods.  I use mine for worm fishing.   ghost.

I have retired a lot of more expensive rods in favor of Lightning Rod Shocks, especial for things like frogging, swimjigs, and other heavy cover reaction type baits.  They are great for the $$ and the fact if you ever broke one and needed one in a pinch you could walk into any Wal-Mart in the USA and grab one.

Nice to see all thes positive reviews. I had an unfortunate boating accident a few weeks ago where I fell in the boat and snapped 4 of my rods in half. I bought a 7 ft. Lightning baitcaster last week at WalMart as a cheap replacement for one of them. I wish I knew about the Shock series though. I'm sure I'll replace another with one of those now.

If its only been a week im sure you could exchange it. they were the same price at my Walmart.

I used one of the regular lightning rods in IM6 for years. I found nothing wrong with it until I closed the tip in the car door. :-(

I just paired up a lightning rod shock with a silver max reel. I went with that rod because everywhere I looked I came up with the same thing you are getting here, everyone loves them, great for the money.

Good, Cant wait to get my shock. I especially like the split grip for my baitcasters. personal preference.

Never used a Shock.  Bought a 6' MH Lightning ($17 at Walmart) to go with a Daiwa Procaster ($30 on closeout from TW) for my oldest grandson.  I tested it using 12# mono and 1/2 oz. spinnerbait.  The blades were causing the whole rod/reel to vibrate.  Can't say that about my longer, more expensive rods.

ALL of the lightning rods I've ever used have been great. Even my dads 20 year old pro series lightning rod is sensitive as all get out.
