So I have this lake filled with thick lily pads.. I've been froging on it for about 3 days straight but nothing is biting... I have kayak now and I'm considering punching but I feel like it I do this I can't get the vertical presentation I would need... also what do.you guys think.... I've tried throwing it the thickest stuff walking it in open water or right along the edges.. the pic is only 1 of about 30 other spots on this lake like this.. any suggestions?

I would keep froggin and try different times during the day and especially at night. Bass love frogs when it's dark out!

When topwaters do not produce in lily pads consider the following.

 

Plastics

1.  The bass are under the pads seeking cooler and more oxygenated water. You have to reach them with your baits.

2.  Consider a half to one-ounce weight to get your bait to the bottom in the pads.

3.  Use a bait that does not have a lot of appendages so avoid getting hung up.

4.  Slob a lot of MegaStrike on the plastic to have it glide into and through the pads.

5.  Peg the weight.

6.  Texas rig with the hook's point hidden under the plastic's skin.

7.  Medium heavy or heavy rod and 50 to 65-pound braid and a 7:1 reel to get them out of the pads.

8.  Go with a lower gear ratio (6:1 family) if that is all you have and be ready for a good fight.

9.  Put bait in all holes.

10. Take your paddle and make your own "hole" in the pads. Wait a few hours and drop your bait into the holes you made.

11. You can consider using a lighter weight if it will fall to the bottom.

12.  Let the bait fall to the bottom, jiggle it a few times and then start all over again.

 

Hard/Moving Baits

1.  Throw your hard baits along the lily pads' edges.

2.  Go topwater, wake and in-between until you use your cranks that hit bottom.

3.  Slow roll a spinnerbait or a Chatterbait type bait.

 

You need to find where the bass are hiding; what they want to eat and the color; and the pattern for the day.

 

Have fun!

You don't need to be vertical to punch. Just cast it up high and let it missile down so it will penetrate. Throw the frog in low light conditions, punch it in the middle of the day. You'll find a bite sooner or later.

Search for weedless lures at BPS and Cabelas looking for something the fish have never

seen before.

1. Timber Doodle size 0 or 1 silver blade with the white split double tail grub. I use a jig type presentation the only thing difference is its not hitting the bottom. I like to bring it up to the top, let it fall and then swim it and repeat. This is my go to

lure in weeds and pads.

2.If you have a clearing near the pads a popper or a rattle spook is a plus to draw them out.

3. Try a crankbait and rip thru them.

4. We have split shot rigged worms and plastics. A floating worm fished on top. A frog the moss boss topwater lures.

5. Mister Twister Top Prop it's one of my hottest topwater weedless lures. I cast it right into the weeds or pads and reel it slow. Don't be afraid to pause it. It will stand straight up that's when it gets hit sometimes too.

6. A weighted hook with a creature bait like a brushog. Just work it slow. I like to use a weedless eagle claw hook in the weeds on all my plastics. Putting a rattle in it

helps too.

7. How about a rattle Bobber with a grub on a leader?

I like hitting all the sences of the bass. It's sight, sound, vibration and smell when I can, a shot of scent helps too. Ring that din, din bell.

3. Try a crankbait and rip thru them.

Lipless with the rear hook removed can work through pads and grass depending on the mat.

 

Sometimes will use a Bandit 100 or wake crankbait with the rear hook removed.

 

Usually throw the cranks parallel and in between the clusters or to and from the clusters.

 

Always looking for those pads and grasses standing by themselves or making a point.

heres my pic.... ill try punching it during the day again.. but maybe if I get out around 5 in the am my frogging with be better..

there are pads standing alone in some spots.. also I have been fishing the points of lilys and around bends where the lily stop and there is submerged brush piles. but this place has really got me stumped..  I've throwing lipless cranks  and cranks along the edges.. buzz bait same thing.. thru senkos in holes.. I was jigging yesterday as well nothing.. I tried letting my frog sit over a small pockets for 30 secs-1 and even  longer sometimes.  we did get 6 inches of rain 4 days ago and the water was a little muddy but it was a cool rain also the last 2 weeks have been brutality hot here.. I would think this weather would get them going again... I've been using mega strike as well. and my pic didn't up load awesome

I live my life by one rule, and i think it will apply to your current situation.

this would be my suggestion as well. i throw swim jigs a lot over pads and usually get more fish than with a frog .
