Made It To Japan

Recommended Posts

Made it to Japan this week.  Already scoped out some bass fishing spots.  Rods and reels showed up on Friday along with all my plastics.  I hope to get out this week.  Will be giving updates throughout my time here.

hi there.. i am new to this forum..

i also came to japan recently, and i also happen to live in Kanagawa pref.

I would like to know where you are planning to go for Bass fishing.. For the past few months, i have been to Chigasaki and somewhere along the Tama river. but fishing there is not satisfying enough (very low byte, very crowded etc). Any advice from OP will be helpful..

Thanks,

Jk.

I'm looking forward to following this thread.

Check out the "spybaiting" technique if you have not already. It seems to be very effective in japanese waters.

If you are looking for somewhere not to far from Zama, you might want to check out and ask around about Lake Tanzawa (丹沢湖). It is is Yamakita -cho (machi) (山北町) in the same prefecture.

I lived in Okinawa for 2 years, I bought a rod and reel and fished a small creek behind the base chow hall i would see these huge fish and eels swimming around but could never catch one, Maybe you can catch something and share some pics I'm definitely interested in what species live in japans freshwaters.

Okay it has been awhile since I posted anything.  We have been in Japan now since last Aug. and I have finally hit my first lake, Sagamiko.  We rented a boat for the day and fished the inlets.  The lake is super deep and the water temp is still pretty cold.  Did not have any luck but one of the Japanese guys fishing caught a nice 7lb large mouth.  I will be heading out in early May as I will be traveling for work.  Looking to use Kayaks. We just have to find a place to launch.  The lakes here don't have boat ramps like in the states and steep banks make it very hard to carry anything down to the water let alone get back up.  To complicate things further parking is an issue as well.  But huge bass are the norm for these lakes and that is what is driving me.  On a non-bass related topic I did catch three of the ugliest looking catfish since I have been here. LOL.
