Line Log

Does anyone keep a log for their reels and what they're spooled with or do you just remember?  Having a hard time just keeping the 8 or 9 that I have straight.  How do some of you do it with 20+ combos?

I use a piece of white tape on the underside of the reel's seat and mark the brand, weight, and type of line.  On the combo's I use most often, it's fairly easy to remember, but just in case I can always check.  I started adding the month and year when I spooled to the info this year as some of my reels only get used a few times a year. BTW, I keep the majority of reels in a padded carrying case and it's just a matter of looking at that piece of tape and I know what line is on that particular reel.

I remember, using mostly braid I use this simple formula and it's based on the line weight of the rod. Basically it goes like this, 40# rod= 40# braid, 30# rod=30# braid, 10/20 rod = 20# braid, 8/17 rod= 15#, 6/12 rod = 10# braid.  The only exception would be line capacity of the reel, I do have 1 inshore reel on 20# rod but the reel holds close to 300 yds of 30# braid, just thought that was a a better set up.

All of my BC reels have 15# on them.  My spinning reel has 10# on it, and the UL has 6# on.  The big problem I have remembering when I spooled them.  Last year I started making an individual entry in my fish log with dates, brand, size, and type of line.  Now if I can't remember I just go back and look in the log.

I have a system like Bankbeater.  I have an Excel spreadsheet that I use to record all my fishing data.  One worksheet in that file lists all the rods & reels. The reel data includes the type of line, pound test, and month/year it was installed on the reel.  I have line on 46 reels at present so I can't do it by memory...

if you pick up some falcon rod covers they have a card on the outside where i put the line, hook size, or type of bait keeps me straight when digging thru the pile.

Microsoft Word. Also has my cleaning log for each reel (from simple touch up w/ oil/grease to a full break down).

i use a Sharpie to label each reel at several places inside and out, A, B, C, D, E. that way i can move the reel around from rod to rod as needed and still have an accurate log of the line/cleaning schedule.

I use stickers.   lb test, brand & date go on the sticker.  Sticker goes on the reel.  Sticker occasionally falls off.   Oh well, try to remember until you can make a new sticker or re-fill the reel, whichever comes first.

sounds like i am not even close to as organized as i need to be!  i realized i had a problem last night when i couldn't even remember what line was on my newest reel that i just spooled up two weeks ago...   :Idontknow:

I use these from TW on my rods and white tape on the reel seats.

I use a label maker that make a label with the Brand/Model & weight I then stick it on the spool.
