catch bass in Eastern Pennsylvania?  What time of day should they be fished?  Any particular brand or color?  Will they work in rivers, or are they for lakes only?  Thanks for any help.

Thanks, BB.  Fishing has been very tough for me so far this year.  Figured I would try something other than my usual.  I fish where it gets pounded.  Maybe no one else is trying frogs, and I will get lucky.   :)

Great way to catch bass, get ready to have a lot of fun. Wait til you feel the weight before you set the hook. :)

Frogs will catch bass anywhere there is heavy cover.

Low light is best as with any topwater lure, but you can catch bass all day if you target shady cover in mid-day.

Any brand in the $7-10 range is fine.  I prefer Black, natural green/brown, and white Snag Proof Bleeding Frogs and Spro Bronzeye 65s.

Make sure you're using heavy line or braid.

I think everyone else has covered it, but one thing i like to tell people when started to frog fish is to be patient. Slow that frog down when it is needed and when you get a strike, sit back and count to 3 then set the hook as hard as you can...

Also use a double palamar knot. I learned the hard way when i started froggin

Gentlemen, thank you very much for the information. I will be using an STX-L spooled with 40 lb. Sufix Performance Braid on a Techna AV 7' MH to start with. Should frogging become part of my repertoire, I will invest in a heavy action rod.

Now I've got to order a couple frogs. ;D

P.S.  I want to thank the Moderator for moving my post to the correct forum where I was able to receive a few more responses.

You can use a Palomar knot, but any knot that cinches down on the eye is going to make it harder to impart action.  I use a Palomar knot when I fish horny toads and the like.  But if I am fishing a spro or a basirisky, or any other topwater that walks, waddles or has side-to-side action then I use a Rapala knot.  You get better action with a loop knot.  And the Rapala knot will retain about 90+% of line strength.  If you are fishing 50-65 lb braid, there is no problem with that kind of line strength retention.

Thanks for the knot information. I usually leave a loop with the Uni Knot, but naturally that will tighten up with enough pressure on the lure.

Jack Daniels Fishing Story

I went fishing this morning but after a short time I ran out of worms. Then I saw a cottonmouth

with a frog in his mouth. Frogs are good bass bait.

Knowing the snake couldn't bite me with the frog in his mouth I grabbed him right behind the head, took the frog, and put it in my bait bucket.

Now the dilemma was how to release the snake without getting bit. So, I grabbed my bottle of Jack Daniels

and poured a little whiskey in its mouth. His eyes rolled back, he went limp. I released him into the lake without incident and carried on fishing using the frog.

A little later, I felt a nudge on my foot. There was that same snake with two frogs in his mouth.

Life is good........
