Ultra-Lite Baitcasting Reel?

Featured Replies

Sorry it's a lite bait caster rod.

I have a nice pleuger lite bait casting rod. Does anyone offer a lite baitcaster reel? The only smaller sized bait casting reel I seen so far is the Shakespeare alpha reel. The average bait casting reel appears to be too large.

Yep, if somebody finds one thats anywhere near as nice as these at a lesser price its time to let the secret out!

Daiwa Pixy or Sol?

bass pro shops used to sell their "prolite finesse" reel. it was built on an 05-size frame (their standard frame is size 10) and the first two generations featured pflueger's inertia transfer brake (ITB) system and pflueger's spin-on forged handles. these were surprisingly good performers for light lures for around $100. unfortunately, it's been almost 4 years since they were last made.

however, if you want ultra-light, then you really to shell out the big bucks.

Smoke 100. Even 150 is only 6.8 Oz.

They're light for sure, but I have trouble casting lighter baits on mine due to the braking. I feel like the choice is between no brakes and all brakes. Reel bombs a Red Eye Shad or hollow-body though.

On topic, BPS Prolite but they are getting hard to find on the secondary market and I believe that parts are becoming an issue.

Daiwa PX68. On the correct rod it easily handles baits down to 1/8 ounce or a little less. Pretty light too. I have one on a Major Craft Volkey 652 UL BFS, a very sweet combo.

Chronarch 50e slings a 1/8 oz head with a 4" grub better than I would have ever imagined.

I found a quantum Bill Dance low profile baitcaster, a quantum low profile baitcaster I'm not sure of the model right now and a small low profile Shakespeare alpha baitcaster also. I'm still browsing anyway. I'd like two of the razor rods for spincast reels for the wife and her girlfriend who are both interested in going fishing with me. I'm thinking two more razor rods with baitcasters. If the women want to fish with me that's ok too. I figure it will be panfishing first.

Team Lew's Pro is awful hard to beat, based on Lew's triple "S" concept,,,, SMOOTH, STRONG, & SWEET,,,,, it is one package that at 6.1 oz. fully loaded with your favorite braid would be awful hard to beat, I am very impressed with mine!

Abu MGX  .  it's the best casting reel I've used with any weight bait .

Lots of good options... I like the Shimano's in the 50 size.  The sol or pixys are nice too, but they are getting harder to find.
