Last Stop

Featured Replies

After 17 years and 8 different duty stations, I'm heading to Ft Riley, KS in November for what should be the final stop in my Army career. Not only will this (hopefully) be my last PCS move, but it's only about a 4 hour drive from my home in northeastern Oklahoma. West Virginia has been good to me, but it's time to move on, and I'm pretty excited. Those of you who fish in Kansas may want to start sharpening your pitchforks now. My very presence on the water has been known to shut down a good bite.

Just don't get a dog named ToTo and you should be fine! :D

Good Luck to you. Maybe the greenbriar will become good fishing again. I always just thought it was me that turned the bight off.

No pitchforks should be needed, you'll be living right next to the best smallmouth lake in the state!  :respect-059:

Thats debatable Blue. :)

You can't blame a poor bite on the Greenbriar on me because I never fished it. If the fishing on Sutton and Summersville lakes or the London pool of the Kanawha declined, it's probably because I was there.

My best day of fishing in WV was on the New River. Two friends and I caught 80 smallmouths on an 8 mile float trip. The fish must not have gotten the word that I was there.

I assume that you're talking about Milford. I was stationed at Ft Riley from 1999-2001, and I fished Milford regularly. In fact, the first tournament I ever fished was on Milford. The water was high and muddy from recent storms, and the wind was howling. Only two fish were weighed in that day, but one of them was mine. I took 2nd place with about 3.5 lbs. I've been tournament fishing ever since.

Yep, 2 of the 5 pound smallmouths I've caught in Kansas were from Milford. Not to mention the last 3 state records have come from there and a good chance that's where the next one will come from too. It isn't just the best smallmouth lake but a good lake for a lot of fish. One of my favorite parts about fishing out there is you never know what will stop your bait next!

All the best for a safe trip and thanks for your service.

Maybe you can find a nice American Legion post to join once you rotate out.

May the fishing gods smile upon you.
