Spin Casting Reel Recommendations

Featured Replies

So my wife loves to fish and I actually enjoy when she goes out with me.  Problem is she'll only use her Zebco 33s and even the higher priced ones are problelms waiting to happen, to say the least.  I've attempted teaching her both spinning and baitcasting, but she prefers that push button.

That said, I'm looking for a better spin caster for her.  Any recommendations?

I had the same situation. We were at Cabelas and i showed her a ZEBCO OMEGA PRO Z03. Comes with extra spool,anti-reverse,and 2 hands. I took the real and put it on a rod the same length she has. She was sold, and we took it home along with a bunch of crankbaits she picked out. She likes the reel so much, she wants another. I fished with it for awhile and was quite impressed. she caught several 4pounders and a 6. Reel handle them no problem. I did switch out the line though...........

I haven't used a spincaster in 25 years, but I've heard good things about the Abu Garcia Abumatic.

A friend of mine carries these for clients and I have used them fishing a Sabiki Rig for skipjack (bait).

I think the reels are at least 5 years old and have never been serviced. It's a fine reel in it's category.

There was an earlier thread on this subject.  I was also interested.  I have paid some good money for a couple of spincasters thinking that if I paid good I would be happy.  I was not.

From the thread, the Zebco Omega Pro and the Daiwa Goldcast 120 seemed to get high marks.

I have not tried them yet myself but I have several new anglers in my family and will be picking some up sooner or later.
