Rage Tail Eliminator

Featured Replies

I'm a huge fan of the Strike King Rage Tail line.  My favorites are the Space Monkey and the Smokin Rooster creature baits.  In the waters that I mainly fish they are "Can't Miss".

Although I can't find the Eliminator in any store locally I really want to try it.  It looks like it just might have the most life-like action of any of the rage tails.

Have any of you tried at out, and how was your success with it?  What size hook did you use/will fit it?

For weightless rigging and swimming the bait a 5/0 EWG Super Line hook, the added weight of the heavy ga of the hook stabilizes the bait and deters it from rotating around. For other rigging methods a regular 4-5/0 EWG is fine.

Great bait. Tough to beat on a Carolina rig with a standard wire 4/0 EWG hook. When using it as a weightless topwater, I go up to a heavy wire 5/0.

Like RW, I've had the best luck on a C-rig.  It's actually become probably my best C-rig bait.  I usually rig it with a 3/0 EWG Superline, 4/0 seems like it wants to bunch on me sometimes.

The Eeliminator was designed to be used with a 4/0 Superline EWG...but since then there have been several new hook designs that work extremely well. I am partial to the Moaner 5/0 weightless screwlock hook. It has a good wire, nice gap and the Bait normally lasts through several fishwhen usin it.

Just in case you need some rigging info, here it is.

I have been using the Moaner hooks, too. Their design

preserves the bait. A few weeks ago I caught ~40 bass

on a single 7" Thumper. I think you'll like them fishing most

soft plastics.

This weekend I plan to fish the Eeliminator on a Moaner

4/0 weighted hook. The rigging looks perfect and the action

might be just what you're looking for!

I like to fish the eeliminator weightless or on a very lightweight c-rig.  It makes a great topwater bait.  Retrieve it along the surface and that tail goes crazy.  If a fish swirls and misses, stop it and crawl it to get that wide wobble.  They come back and hit it almost every time.

Thanks for all the great input.  God, I love this site!

One more question though......

How does the bait perform on a spincaster as opposed to a baitcaster?

Does the Eliminator roll alot more.  I ask because it seems that I've been using my spincaster rig alot more than my baitcaster.  Mainly because my spinners are newer and better.

I use alot of soft plastics with my spinner with no problems with rolling.  I usually use 10-12 lb mono and 30 lb braid with the rig.

It makes no difference, but you might need to slow down just

a tad. Some spinning reels have high IPT vs baitcasters.
