On those solo days, you may want to think about one of those mushroom anchors. I have a 10lb'r and its saved us many a time. If not your just spinning around like a leaf in a lazy river.

Way to go forum.  I followed your advice and now I get to cull another one.  Pulled this from my little pond.  Threw a rapala x-rap white around the bait schools and got this 18.5 inch-er.  Missed another probably in the same size range.

hehe Lou, i'm heading into a busy weekend. my mother is flying in from Poland on tuesday (want some Zubrowka MCS, or some other liquor? no joke, i can ask her to bring some. maybe Sliwowica?) and i have a lot of work around the house, plus my friend (13sn13) is turning 30 tomorrow so it's a party!

 

i did manage to go out today after work though, this time i fished behind my house in the small canal and it was on fire. i pulled 3 snakeheads and about 10 bass, all in about an hour, though the bass were TINY! from 6 to maybe 13-14 inches, on a good day.

 

speaking of snakeheads, i saw a pair guarding young, and the young ones were HUGE! i've never seen a school of 5" snakeheads! there were hundreds of them! this whole canal is infested with the devil fish and i'm beginning to wonder if i should thin them out a bit. i normally let them back in the water, unless i'm going to eat one which doesn't happen often, because i have an ethical problem with killing things for no reason, but it has really gotten bad in my canal. i must have seen a snakehead every 20-30 yards!!! this is insane!!! there was a lot of small bass and other fish, but the snakeheads were all decent size. i'm seriously starting to wonder if this little canal can sustain the eco system with so many apex predators of one specie in it

 

what do you guys think? should i go on a "kill snakeheads" campaign for few weeks? my mom will be here and i'll be taking some time off so i can find time to walk up and down that canals and do some serious damage...

Can't help you there buddy. However watching video's of the snakehead round ups, they use little aluminum clubbing bats. Two good hits on their heads and I don't see them moving after that.

You gotta get a good knife buddy...a kabar or esee.... quickest way inst a bat or decapitating. It is one good poke right through the head. But bat is the lease gruesome, knock them out and the suffocate.
