Well after a long day on the lake ive gotta say im lovin the tatula more and more each time I cast it. I have mostly Lews reels and I found myself going for the tatula and just changing lures on it instead of picking up another rod with the same lure on it..lol..the only thing I like more about my lews tournament pros are the weight difference..they feel significantly lighter

Thanks for the reports. I've been day dreaming about my first baitcasting setup. And I've sorta narrowed it down to a Lews BB-1, but the recent forum reviews on the Tatula are very enticing.

That Tatula is pretty sweet from the sounds of it. How well do you think the levelwind will hold up and does it cast easier and further?What size line and lure you throwing?     and     did you catch any?

I have owned some cheaper Daiwas and they worked well.

 

My 1st baitcast reel was going to be a 201E7.  It wound up being a Daiwa Fuego on closeout at TW.  Then I picked up another when TW only had 3 left.  Wish I could have afforded all three.  This forum has always leaned more towards Shimanos since I found it in '09.  Lews have come on strong the last year.  Somehow I wound up with slightly over half of my reels being Daiwas.  The cheapest was another TW closeout at $30...the Procaster 100HN.  It is a solid reel.  My other Daiwas include TD-S, TD-X, TD-Z, TD-Z Type R, Sol, Fuego, Alphas and Zillion.  Only negative coment I can make about any of them is that I am not fond of the spool release locations on my S and Type R reels.  I much prefer the standard thumb release location.

 

I've never owned a bad Daiwa, although one of the used ones I bought did have to be sent in for a minor repair.  It is another great Daiwa...the TD-Z 105H, and works great for what I am using it for...light lures.  I have been reading a lot about the Tatula and Tatula Type R.  May have to pick up a used one next year when one of you guys buys the next latest and greatest reel to come out. 

 

A lot of my reels are like me.....oldies but goodies. 

Anything Shimano.

 

Second choice Lews.

 

Watch for holiday sales.

Daiwa makes good casting reels in general. The Tatula is just no exception. The T wing deal is kinda cool but it's the general Daiwa engineering that makes it what it is. I wouldn't expect the T wing to be any more or less durable than any other level wind.

Well so far the levelwind has worked flawlessly but only time will tell for how long. Im confident it will last though, it is very crisp when it flips back over. I was using 15lb P-line flouro on a 7' quantum smoke MH rod. Threw a 1/2 oz spinnerbait, 3/8 crankbait, 3/4 swimbait...I tried several lures and it really casted everything about the same distance..which by the way, it casts a effin mile..I didnt try any 1/4 oz lures. It feels more powerful than my Lews TP when burning in a crank bait or spinnerbait. As for fish, only caught a few but I didnt get to get on the lake till 11 so I feel I did ok..biggest one was around 2 1/2 lbs

I don't know about you, but I often switch rods (and thus reels) during a day of fishing.  In May I was in Florida fishing with my bro-in-law.  Had an STX, Chronarch 101A and a Trion with me.  One day we went to a tidal water inlet to fish.  Was fishing by 8 a.m..  Quit at about 2.  Got something to eat.  Unloaded boat in lake behind his house, and fished until around 9:30 p.m.  I'm 65.  I don't work out.  I can't understand how the weight of a reel can tire someone out from a day of fishing.  I can understand how reeling in a spinnerbait cast after cast after cast can tire out the rod arm.  Don't think the weight of the reel is the reason, tho.

 

EDIT:  See!  What did I tell you?  Sam confirmed it.  Number 1 Shimano, number 2 Lews,  forget about the rest.

Yea I do burn out the old spinnerbait sometimes.Some days I just throw the thing faster and faster.Compulsive fishing disorder.Doctor said I should relax and let him get more casts in.

I change reels several times a day while fishing too..its not that im tired but u can notice a difference when u move from a rod and reel that weighs a few ounces lighter

I want to try a smoke reel but I havent had much luck with quantum reels

I just sold an old headphone amp for $150. Hope to sell another piece of audio equipment for $100 soon. I see a Tatula or BB-1 on a *** MH rod in my future.  

The BB1's cast really well..just not sure about the plastic rod that holds the palm cover..on the other hand the tatula palm cover is a little harder to access but really there is no reason to access the palm on the tatula cause its not centrifugal

I do like the magforce z brake on the tatula..it works great in high wind

That's what I like about it also.The other style breaks can wear out.I don't believe magnetic can.Appreciate all your posts!

There is a 29 minute video on you tube that explains the magforce z breaking..pretty interesting if u have time to watch it

I saw the one by keepingitreel fishing if you mean that one it was very informative.They put some engineering into the magforce z thats for sure.A friend gave me an older daiwa,pretty beat up.I cleaned it and lubed it, still a little rough but for heavy lures that thing can bomb some led.Its the 89 dollar twichin bar style a little odd shaped but it just reminded me how Daiwa works.I had a TD-X I kinda lost, good real also.Used to cast all the line to the end.It didn't hold too much but cast all of it.12lb. line

So have u decided what to buy yet..lol

I know you're not asking me, but I just picked up a new Diawa Tatula 6.3:1 reel and a new *** *** 7'1" MHF road. Can't wait to set it up and try my first BC cast! Stupid work always getting in the way...

So you are thinking of buying a new baitcaster?

Go with any brand you like, as long as it is a strong name brand.

 

Bring the rod with you to the tackle store and put the reels you are considering on the rod to see how it feels with each rod.

 

Then make up your mind and start to save for the next baitcaster.

I would like to know how it performs for you. Lotta positive things so far.Any negatives?
