Storm Thunderstick Vs. Pointers

Featured Replies

How do you think they compare?? Differences? Im looking for a comparable jerkbaits, which a significantly less price tag.

Thanks,

Pointers tend to run true and suspend properly right out of the box.

I haven't used a thuderstick in years. But, if you don't mind doing a little tweaking, they will do the job.

You'll need to bend the eye of the bait to get them to run true, and add some suspend dots to get them to suspend properly.

Ditto for most other cheaper jerkbaits.

I've had good luck with X-Raps. About 70% of them work right out of the box. That's a much better percentage than any other non-Pointer jerkbait.

Thundersticks are good but they are not suspending ( floaters ) they need a little bit of tweaking because not all run true out of the box.

X-Raps are good, like Ghoti mentioned, 70-80 percent of them run true out of the box and they fly like rockets when you cast them.

My advice ? better get the Pointer.

I'd much rather use a Husky Jerk or Rogue than the Thunderstick, if price is the issue.

Here on the White River chain (Beaver, Table Rock, Bull Shoals) the water is super-clear, but lots of guys still swear by the Rogue which doesn't really have a high quality paint job, but can be tweaked to suspend perfectly.

Another thing- even Pointers don't ALWAYS suspend perfectly as water density changes with water temperature. You'd have to have a lure that was self-regulating with some ballast system like a submarine.

I'm sure that's coming next. :;)

In the meantime, take along some stick on weights or lead wire.

I am not a big fan of most of the Lucky Craft baits, but the Pointers are in a class by themselves. I have not found anything else that gives me the results they do.

Try some Smithwick Rogue's or Super Rogues.

Another vote for pointers, perfect right out of the box. For a cheaper jerkbait, rogues have always worked real well also.

The thunderstick isn't even in the same ballpark as the pointer. Go with Rapala X - raps and husky jerks if pointers are too much for you. I only have a few pointers anyway.

I agree with iceintheveins, the Thunderstick is in a different ballpark. The Husky Jerk, and X-Raps are a much better choice. Another choice is the Bomber Long A. They've put ALOT of bass in my livewell.

Try some Smithwick Rogue's or Super Rogues.

Rouges are one of my least favorite jerkbaits. I know a lot of people swear by them, but for some reason I never seem to do well with them. I'm sure it has more to do with me than the bait.

Pointers hands down. But if you want less expensive try a rapala husky jerk. They come in shallow & deep divers.

I totally agree. Pointers and Sammys are the only LC baits worth the price, IMO. X-Raps are almost as good. You can get three of those for every two Pointers. You don't need that many colors either. I think size and speed is more important when it comes to jerkbaits. Gold/orange belly, silver, clown is about it.

If I could have only one suspending jerk bait in my box... it would be a Pointer 78.  ;)

xraps or husky jerks. imo lucky craft, sebile, yo zuri etc. are wastes of money. in my home lake they would be destroyed quick by all the pickeral and i wouldnt spend more then $10 unless its swimbaits. i have outfished guys with thundersticks, xraps, rogues, ect. with them using lucky craft, sebile, yo zuri, etc

I have about 20 x-raps, but havent had the best luck with them. Like everything else it might just be a confidence thing...fish um till you get bit then go from there

I just got some pointers but im still going to get some thundersticks because I like the fact that they float which can help in certain applications
