Floating Swimbait Or Other Topwater?

Featured Replies

Been looking at TW, and I'm not sure if I should buy a floating Mattlures bluegill/Floating Huddleston or just buy a sinking version of those two and buy something like a Lucky Craft Sammy for topwater. Any opinions?

I have heard excellent things about the Spro bbz1 floating and the MS Slammer or mini slammmer. As for swimbaits vs sammy I would suggest to look at your lake. I have a nice Huddleston, Mattlures bluegill and mattlures baby bass that I hardly use because they get stuck too much. The best way to fish swimbaits is very slow, so if your lake has too much cover you will get stuck. If its a rocky reservoir or something like that I would go for sinking, but if there's a lot of cover I would get a floating so you can actually use it without the fear of getting stuck. Hope this helps.

I generally prefer hard swimbaits for topwater/wake baits.  I like fishing soft swimbaits deep, or at least below the surface.  If you want a swimbait that can fished on top, I would get a MS Slammer, a Shell Cracker or a Lunker Punker.  The Slammer and Cracker can be waked on the surface.  The LP is a topwater walk the dog bait.

I'd like to get a Huddleston 6" in baby bass, one of the Mattlures bluegill, and a jointed rat bait. Is it worth saving a bit more to get a hardgill or would a floating U2 be ok?
