  1. Nice video! I fish at Prairie Lee quite a bit because I live just a few minutes away. I just got home from college about a week ago and have been fishing quite a bit since, the bluegill have been very active for sure and the average size for bass hasn't been great, so you guys did about par for the course based on my experience there!
  2. I've only ever used a motor guide, and I have been very pleased with it. The only problem I have ever had with it is one of the steering cables snapped. Fortunately it did not happen to me during a tournament. Changing the cable wasn't that hard. If I was buying a new boat, I would go choose to have another cable driven motor guide on it.
  3. @big_basser5 I would say to keep trying it. Might stumble across a good one. That's what a friend of mine did.
  4. @big_basser5 its a weird little pond. Doesn't get any deeper than about 5 feet in most places, and the bite is weird. I've never caught good numbers out of there, and neither has a friend of mine who fishes there a lot. Size is decent though
  5. I think they still allow you to go out if you remove the prop. I did it once. Really a pain fishing a lake of that size with just a trolling motor. Good fish in there though
  6. I emailed the county a while back asking if they could remove the horsepower restriction in the late fall, winter, and early spring because no sail boats or pontoons are ever out during those months. Thought it was worth a shot since I'm already paying for the county pass and I live about 2 minutes from Jacomo, but they said no way
  7. Really wish I could get out on Jacomo, but my 150hp is far over Jacomo's horsepower limit. The boat permit you have to buy is for all the lakes in Jackson county, and is rather expensive
  8. This is a good method. I learned it from a guide. Keep the materials cheap so you don't lose much if the lure doesn't come unstuck.
  9. As the other's have said, they are great jerk baits. The STX catches nearly all my jerkbait fish. Hooks are not the best, but its cheaper to change them than buy megabass
  10. Missouri craw skirt would not be bad, but I have had the most luck fishing green skirted jigs with a bit of orange and also davenport special jigs. Black/blue is never a bad idea either.
  11. Yeah, I fish there quite a bit. Like KSadler said, no real size. Haven't ever caught one over 3 out of there. I do decently there on jerkbaits all throughout the winter.
  12. Fluoro is not ideal for buzzbaits, but it can certainly work. Braid is a great option especially if you're casting over cables to fish around and behind docks, in my opinion.
  13. I would advise you to check out some used bass boats. You can get a bigger boat with more horsepower and maybe even upgraded electronics for about what that Z6 costs. You may have to look for a while though. I bought used and am still very happy with the decision I made. Just my thoughts.
  14. Hard to go wrong with a Veritas, in my opinion.
  15. No, I didn't fish the bash. I liked the big head wobbler and its erratic action. Caught all the big head wobbler fish on the fronts of docks, but all the buzz bait hits (had lots of blow ups without hook ups) came behind docks over the cables.
  16. Fished LOZ this past thursday and friday. There was a bfl going on not too far from us so there were quite a few boats out. Fished between mouth of Gravois and 11mm, water was consistently around 70 degrees. The fish were scattered, the shad weren't back in the creeks too well yet. I caught fish on spooks, buzz baits, jigs, and a few on bluebasser's big head wobbler. No real big fish but quite a few small keeper sized fish. Overall a pretty fun trip! Caught quite a few this size
  17. I have a bass pro pro qualifier bait cast reel that has been malfunctioning. It is about 2 years old. I had it out recently, and I had a lure stuck, so I gave it a jerk with the rod. When I did this, line came off the spool giving me a large over run. This has happened a few times. The drag is tightened and the spool tension is set properly, and I wasn't touching the thumb bar at all. Any ideas why it would do this? What do you think I should do?
  18. What kind of boat do you have? Ive had my Tr186 out in some nasty stuff on July weekends on LOZ and it handled it alright...though very slowly lol. But admittedly my standards of handling the waves alright are much lower than most guy's. I'm young and never make long runs.
  19. Only app I use is The Weather Channel when I need to check the weather to see if there are storms in the area. It has an hourly forecast and a radar map, both of which are useful to the fisherman.
  20. What gloves do you have on in that first pic?
  21. Honestly I would advise against running to gravois even if you have the option. I stay around shawnee bend a few times a year as well and i used to run up to gravois occasionally. In my opinion, no one part of the lake is better and the gravois run is not worth it. I'd say to save time and money and just fish near where you're staying. Ive taken two guided trips from Shawnee as well and both guides stayed close by and did not run to gravois. Good luck!
  22. Question: whenever people say that braid has better sensitivity than mono or fluoro because it doesn't stretch, just how much do you guys think your line is going to stretch as you're dragging a 1/2 oz along the bottom? In my experience, it doesn't stretch any when working a lure, making the line that sinks (fluorocarbon) the most sensitive.
  23. Theres no way to know for sure, really. And even if there were it would vary from day to day or even hour to hour based on a multitude of factors. Personally, I used to use straight braid and caught fish on it, but I decided that i would rather just use fluoro and be absolutely positive my line wasn't costing me any bites. Personally I think fluoro is a superior line anyways, but thats a whole other topic.
