  1. Depends on what you will be using it for. Mono is the best all-purpose line, but fluorocarbon is far superior for certain presentations. FC sinks, and is invisible underwater, making it ideal for bottom contact lures like jigs and t-rigs. It is also more abrasion resistant, but is the most difficult line to maintain and use. Oftentimes it needs line conditioner to remain limp and without memory. FC is also quite expensive. A decent spool costs over $20, and can go up to $40 for really good line. Don't skimp and buy the bad stuff, you'll hate it. Mono floats and is very cheap. A very good spool of mono costs about $10, and the cheaper stuff can be had for $3, and is decent quality. Most guys like mono for topwater, personally I use it for all treble-hooked baits excluding jerkbaits. It's floating properties reduce sensitivity on bottom contact lures. Tell us what lures you intend to throw on this reel and we'll give you a definite answer and what pound test you need.
  2. What length/power do you have? I saw some of your reports with it and it looks like I would use it for similar applications as you do.
  3. Thanks for all the replies, guys. It looks like I have a lot of good options to choose from. I will let you guys know what I end up choosing. Thanks!
  4. I'm trying to choose a new rod to use primarily for heavy T-rigs and jigs. I am looking to spend around $150 on a new rod, and I plan on getting a 7' MH or H, depending on the brand. I have it narrowed down to these three, but you guys can certainly suggest one I don't list. 1. Dobyns Savvy Casting Rod 2. Shimano Crucial Split Grip Casting Rod 3. Pinnacle Perfecta DHC5 Casting Rod Any rods in this price range I should stay away from? Thanks for all suggestions and opinions!
  5. What ever happened to your "In Pursuit of Giant Bass Thread"? I liked following along there. My goals are to catch a new PB and fish my first tournament.
  6. Did you see the color the wiggle wart that sold for over 3k was? I wouldn't have paid over $10 for it, but I guess it was super rare or something. Are those pre-rap warts in your avatar? The paint job on them looks sweet.
  7. Thanks for the replies, guys. Looks like the consensus is to put on the Revo SX with the magnetic brakes. Thanks!
  8. I'm trying to put together a skipping setup for next year and can't decide which reel to put on it. I have a Abu Garcia Revo SX Gen 3 (magnetic only) and a Lew's Speed Spool BB1HZ (centrifugal only). Which would be better for a skipping set up? Thanks!
  9. I've been using my citica for about 5 months and I love it. It casts great, reels super smooth, and feels great in my palm. I will definitely be buying another.
  10. I would look at what you want to do with the boat and work backwards from there. If you want to fish ponds or small lakes without ramp access, a kayak would be a nice choice for a good price. If you want to fish small to medium sized lakes, you could save some money and get a medium sized aluminum boat or get a fiberglass boat. If you're looking to fish large lakes, fiberglass (or a deep-v tin) would be the way to go, but for the price you're looking at it would be fairly old with high engine hours. Personally, for that price range, I would be trying to get a nice deal on a tracker or some other tin boat with bass boat features (casting deck, some storage, live wells etc). For that price if you bought a fiberglass you would be bound to encounter rotting transoms, engine troubles, or fiberglass issues. There's nothing wrong specifically with older boats, but they're a lot more likely to have significant problems than newer boats.
  11. We've mainly been fishing Prairie Lee. We tried blue springs a few times in November and got like one bite in 3 trips. I've heard from quite a few guys that Praire Lee is a good jerk bait lake; I've seen more nice bass boats there in the winter than I do in the summer. Numbers are down but average size is up, even for my brother and I, who haven't ever fished winter before.
  12. This is my first winter fishing too and my numbers of fish are definitely down, but the jerk bait has been able to pretty consistently put a few in the boat for me.
  13. What lures have you been throwing? Normal lake or power plant lake?
  14. Anybody hear anything about it or get a chance to try it out yet? Considering getting it for a baitcasting setup.
  15. You know what, come to think of it, I think this is really an issue of what kind of trailer is being used. I mainly use Netbait paca craws, which, as far as I know, have very little to no salt in them. I leave these trailers on my jigs with no problems at all. The one time I have had a problem was when I left a Yamamoto Kut-tail worm rigged up on a shakey head for a few days. In a few days time there was visible rust on the hook that I had to file off. In conclusion, it sounds like it is based off the salt concentration of your trailers.
  16. I generally pre-rig what I think will most likely be the color jig I will be using. Normally this is the color I end up using because I fish one lake quite often so I am pretty in-tune with the current conditions. If I am wrong I will just cut off the jig and tie on a new one. As for pre-rigging the trailer, I match the trailer with the skirt color, so if I don't like the trailer color I will just change jigs altogether for a new skirt color and trailer color.
  17. I always pre-rig my trailers, and I also always leave them on between trips. Never had an issue with the hooks rusting, and the majority of my jigs have trailers on them 24/7. It seems to me like the trailer being on the jig would prevent oxygen from reaching the affected part of the hook, making it unable to rust.
  18. Welcome to the forums. I fish Jacomo once in a while, but I'm quite a bit over the HP limit so it's a PITA. Do you have much luck at Blue Springs? I've never been able to figure that lake out lol.
  19. Why is that? Is it because you don't like throwing it or because you just think those other lures could catch fish better?
  20. Pretty solid breakdown of the Missouri lakes. I quite like Smithville, but you're right, $15 to launch is ridiculous. Each time I've been there I've done very well, and I've stayed on the lower end by the dam so there were no areas difficult to navigate.
  21. So do you throw your big worms or not? Op was asking whether or not you threw worms through the winter, not how you store them during the winter months.
  22. Worm - Zoom Ol' Monster Creature Bait - Zoom Brush Hawg Jerk Bait - Smithwick Suspending rogue Spinner Bait - Booyah 1/2 oz Crankbait - KVD 2.5 squarebill Lipless Crank - SK RES Popper - Don't use em Walker - Zara spook I didn't see these included, but I'll throw them in anyways: Jig: 1/2oz siebert brush jig Trailer: 50/50 split between rage tails and paca craws
  23. You guys are doing it ALL wrong. You guys clearly just need to buy a bigger boat to hold all of you tackle
  24. Thanks for the replies guys. I am going to try throwing an a-rig some this winter when the wind makes jerk baits difficult to throw.
  25. Thanks for the replies guys, that's some good info. What's the best time of year to throw it? I think it's winter but I'm not sure
