  1. Sounds like a great day!
  2. Hey guys, I went fishing this morning and got skunked. I tried everything- jigs, spinnerbaits, crank baits, finesse and T-rig. I am a bank fisherman and the temp (air) was about 45 degrees when I was fishing, and it has been colder the past days. I think that the fish were too deep for me to reach them because of the cold water temp. I plan on going fishing a few days this week (from shore), the temp is supposed to be high of 60's all week. What would be the best time of day to go? Should i go mid-day so it is warmer and the fish will be shallower or should I just stay home. Thanks in advance!
  3. Thanks for the advice, I am determined to learn to use jigs this year! thanks again!
  4. Thanks for the replies. I mainly hear about people throwing jigs into cover and just wanted to make sure it was a good area to use one.I will definitely throw a jig as soon as the weather warms up and I can fish. Thanks again!
  5. Hey guys, let me first say that I am trying to get into jig fishing this year. I fish from a dock and am not 100% sure what cover is around it, but I am pretty sure there is some submerged timber and a crappie bed. Do you guys think this is ok for a jig or would I be better off to go to a different lake and shore fish so i can move and find heavy cover? Thanks in advance.
  6. Thanks for the replies, I don't think I will get it after reading those. Upon further thinking, it does seem like one of those lures we buy that looks good in the store but we never even use on the water. Thanks again, $5 saved is $5 dollars earned!
  7. Hey guys, i saw today that bass pro has released their "my guide" fishing app. It is supposed to tell you a lot of things, like good times to fish, record fishing spots/where you caught fish, and mabye even a fishing log. Here is a link to see more https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bass-pro-shops-myguide-hunt/id549863378?ls=1&mt=8 . So what i want to know is if any of you guys have it, and if so, is it worth getting? Thanks in advance!
  8. I think it is because we unconsciously work the bait slower, which results in more lure-in-strike-zone time. If I have confidence in a bait and think i will get a bite, I work it very slow. However, If i am using something i have little confidence in (for me, T-rig), I usually work it too fast and don't fish it effectively and for a short time so i can get back to throwing crank baits. Im a long shot from an expert but thats just my opinion.
  9. I am looking to no more snow shoveling and more fishing! Also to try out a new baitcaster combo i got for christmas!
  10. I started about 6 months ago, when I was 14 (15 now). No one else in my family fishes (or does many outdoor activities) but my twin brother and I started going to the local lake to "fish". After a day of catching bluegill, we decided that was no fun and we wanted more challenge, thus we got into bass fishing. I sure am glad I did!
  11. I am going to work on fishing with a jig. I haven't ever gotten them to work but i will this year.
  12. Thanks for all the replies! I will pick up some of the suggested colors soon!
  13. I fish from shore so i am a "cover fisherman" and mainly use squarebill crank baits.
  14. Hi guys, I have done a lot of reading and watched a lot of videos about everything bass fishing. The lake I fish is pretty murky, so naturally I want to find the best color of lure for this kind of water. while reading, I found two different answers. One was to use dark lures so the bass would see the outline and it would look natural. The other was to use bright colors so the bass could see it better. What do you guys think, light or dark lures for murky water? Thanks!
  15. I bank fish, too. I keep it simple with two rod and reels (spinning and casting), and a plano tackle box. In this i have hard lures, plastics, terminal tackle, a scale, extra line and my phone to take pictures.
  16. Thanks, you guys are great! I will have to start using the carolina rig and will look into a better rod. Thanks!
  17. TNBassin'-Your right! Not only am i too young to drink but also don't want a treble hook deep in my finger or some other incident easily avoided by staying sober! haha Semper-Thanks for the video, however the lake i fish is so small that even when i have found topo maps for it they are just flat!
  18. Thanks for all the replies, I will definetley try them. I have been thinking about polarized sunglasses for a while and will probably get them soon. But for now- off to google earth! thanks again!
  19. Hi guys, I'm new to the forum and can't wait to learn a ton. As the title says, I fish from shore. This means I don't have a boat or a fish finder. So what I want to know is what the best way is to identify underwater structure or cover from the shore. I have tried to "feel" whats underwater with my lure but I can hardly tell how deep it is, nonetheless what is on the bottom (I use a fiberglass rod and mono line). Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! Brian
