  1. LOL . Sounds like a great childhood memory, though.
  2. Thanks for the answers, I will go buy some Megastrike to add some scent and color. With this rain we have gotten in the past 24 hours the water will definitely be muddy this weekend. Thanks again!
  3. Hey guys, I fish a lake that is pretty murky. I have been fishing it for less than a year, but have only caught fish on "vibration" lures, like rattling crank baits, lipless crank baits, and indiana blade spinnerbaits. Is it possible that the fish just can't see or hear the lure whenever I try throwing anything t-rigged, drop shotted, or even jigs? I have tried all of these with no luck. Thanks in advance.
  4. Thanks guys, hopefully I can get one bigger this year!
  5. I agree with the posts above, bomber's have consistently produced for me. Now the fanciest paint job, but it just has flat out fish catching action, all for a good price. You chose very nice cranks, though.
  6. I just had a day of firsts! Caught my first fish of the year, caught my first fish on a spinnerbait and caught my new PB of 3 pounds! I know this isn't that big for largemouth but it is good for me and a respectable size for the lake I fish. We measured it at just over 18 inches! My brother took a picture of me holding it (it was chunky!) but I must have deleted it because it isn't on my phone anymore. Oh well, I'm still really excited!
  7. Like everybody else said, you can get decent stuff for less than that. I have a berkley cherrywood rod ($29.99) and love it, and a shakespeare walmart spinning rod ($30) and it works fine. Also, I taught myself to fish too and I would suggest finding someone knowledgeable to fishing with. That would help a lot.
  8. Sounds like a great day! And my best day was this past labor day. I caught 5 fish in about an hour and a half, which is excellent for my lake as well as fishing from a dock.
  9. Thanks for the suggestions guys. I started out with a black and blue jig along the drop off and over the timber but did't get anything. I switched to a green bomber crankbait I found a month ago. I was bouncing it along the timber, and was pulling it out of the water because it was at the dock, when I see a flash of green go after the lure! I was too late, though. I guess the bass followed the lure all the way to the dock, and tried to strike just as I was pulling it out of the water. That was the only action of the day. Thanks for this, I am going again tonight and will definitely try out the tube as well as spinnerbait.
  10. I don't like them, if everybody did that there wouldn't be any fish there for them to catch and eat. Seems selfish to me. I think it is ok to take one or two if you want, but those guys go overboard.
  11. Hey guys, I haven't been doing too well this season because it is my first spring. I am going fishing tonight and need some lure suggestions. I fish from a dock on a 175 (give or take) acre lake. The temp all week has been 50's-60's, but right now it is in the 70's. The water temp is probably around 50-55. To the left of the dock is a ton of submerged timber, growing gradually steeper, and to the right is a drop off (so I've been told) at about 10-12 feet with some light submerged timber closer to shore. What would you guys throw? Also, it is very windy, so there is no guarantee of being able to cast a jerkbait well. Thanks!
  12. I think you got some excellent lures to learn with as well as learn what you like to fish. I wish I had started with lures like this instead of blowing a lot of money on a lot of gimmicks. Good choices and good luck!
  13. No problem, glad I could help!
  14. I don't have many of those to share, but this thread sure does http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/115540-those-old-folk-lore-fishing-rules/
  15. Hey guys, we had a presentation at my high school about climate control. Naturally, I was sitting there thinking I was just too cool to be there, but I started to think about how it would affect me, and more related to this forum, my love for fishing. First, let me say that I am by no means a "tree hugger". I don't drive a prius, but you don't have to do your part. And honestly, I don't even like to talk about this stuff, but I feel it is so important I have to. During the presentation, they told us that our earths atmosphere's parts per million of carbon is higher than ever, and still rising. 97% of scientists agree that if we don't do something, our climate will be drastically changed in the next 10 years. This made me think of how it would affect bass fishing, and nature in general, and it won't be good. I'm not going to act like a genius, so if you want to read more here is their website: http://www.acespace.org So I am asking you guys, just like the website listed above says, to do one thing (DOT) to help stop climate control. You could use reusable water bottles to reduce waste, recycle whenever possible, carpool, bike or walk anywhere close, unplug unused appliances, and lastly reuse things when possible. Mine will be to unplug anything that isn't being used to save energy. Please help me, and more importantly, our world, to stop climate control. And, just to make it fun, reply to this thread of what your "one thing" will be. Thanks for your time. Brian
  16. That actually hasn't been said yet, that is a great idea, though. Oftentimes it is more where than what. Thanks!
  17. I second squarebill crankbaits. Get one that runs 2-4 feet in a sexy shad pattern with a little sparkle so it will work in most waters. Other than that I have heard jigs and worms are very versatile but I am yet to catch anything on them.
  18. The best (and only) baitcaster i have used is the Abu Silver max. Love it.
  19. Thanks for all the answers, there are some great replies. Using this advice, I will continue asking fellow fisherman what they are using, but will not press for any more info if they don't offer it. Thanks a ton!
  20. Thanks for the replies guys, I'm glad to know I haven't been breaking some unwritten rule. And you guys are right, it is definitely about how you fish it, now just what you are fishing. Man, we need more nice people like you around my lake. Most of the boaters I have talked to have been pretty mean. They will fish right in front of our dock when we have nowhere else to fish. One time my brother was snagged 50 feet away from the dock and a boat went 5 feet away from his lure and didn't offer to try to get him off. Then the same boater, minutes later, had the audacity to ask us to unsnag his lure when he casted onto our dock and got snagged. Talk about frustrating!
  21. Hey guys, I was just reading the thread about drop shotting a hula popper, and i realized a lot of you guys don't like to tell guys what lure you are using if you are having success. Well I fish from a dock, and will quite commonly ask guys in boats what lure they are using. Do you guys think this is bad etiquette? I just wanted to get your guys' input. Thanks!
  22. You guys have given me some good new ideas . My brother and I fish from a dock and in the summer there would be many days where we would be catching more fish than all the people in boats, so a couple times people in boats would come and cast right in front of where we are fishing on our dock, so that we just had to wait for a few minutes. It got to a point to where we had to keep a rod with a heavy Rat-L-Trap on it to "defend our territory" (just cast out far, not hit them) hahah. After that, they had the nerve to ask what lure we were using. We always told them what we were using, but that might change after reading this thread .
  23. Good point, I didn't even think of that. I will try to get one booked tonight or tomorrow night. Thanks for the reminder!
  24. Thanks, I just emailed them about rates and such. Theres no real rush since it is just under a month away. Thanks for the advice and I will definitely let you know how it turns out.
  25. . Oldplug, can you leave a link to their website? I just googled it and couldn't find anything. Thanks!
