  1. I believe its around MM 34, but I know his cove is right next to Ozark Bar-B-Que, if that helps. And thanks, I will look into that. The best looking one I've found, Big Ed's Guide service runs $225 for 4 hours. That seem reasonable? And any suggestions for other guides?
  2. Those are both good ideas. Hopefully someone has used one they like. I have looked and the best looking one I have found is "Big Ed's Guide Service". Thanks!
  3. Yeah, we would definitely be staying in the cove. I am even hesitant to go into the main channel on a jet ski! Sounds like the guide would definitely make for fun fishing, and I wouldn't mind that transformation if I learned that much! Thanks for the advice!
  4. Hi guys, I am planning a one day fishing trip to the Lake of the Ozarks in mid-April (I'm not too concerned about the lake in specific, otherwise it would be in central bass fishing thread). I have only been fishing for about 6 months on a lake that has a reputation for being pretty bad, and doing it from shore, too. That said, I get skunked about half the times I go. I had a real good late summer pattern but can't find the fish since then. So we are going to LOZ, which is supposed to be very good for bass fishing. I would be using my Grandpa's canoe. However, I do not want to get skunked. Do you guys think I should hire a guide for the morning and go on the canoe in the afternoon? Or should I be fine on my own. I haven't ever fished in spring before so don't know what to expect. So, guide or no guide? Thanks in advance!
  5. No set date, It all depends on the weather. Bass eggs die below 55 degrees Fahrenheit, so the bass usually start to spawn when the water temp is 60 degrees in around 10 feet of water. Hope this helps
  6. Thanks for the replies, you guys are right. It has been so long since I've been on the water that I forgot all about bumping a crankbait off cover. Looks like I need to stock up on both. Thanks!
  7. Hey guys, I have had a question for a while and am just now getting around to asking it. Crankbaits are my go-to bait. I have caught all but two of my bass on them. However, they are quite expensive, especially having to buy ones to cover all depths as well as colors. I have been wondering if there is any advantage to regular cranks over lipless cranks, because with lipless cranks you don't have to buy different depths. So basically, do you prefer crankbaits, lipless cranks or both and for what reasons? Thanks in advance!
  8. I live in Mo, haven't ever fished it before, though. You would probably have better luck in the local forums, you're more likely to find someone that has fished it there. Good luck!
  9. Well I'm a long shot from an expert but some common "big bass" lures are the jig and pig, large worms (10+ inch), and large swim baits. Sounds like you had a great day, how did you have that trick worm rigged?
  10. I was at Walmart and went back to the fishing section and bought a white 3/8 oz rooster tail inline spinner. I've heard they are good and hope to have some luck with it!
  11. No luck...Was out there for 3 hours, tried everything. Sure enough, when I was about to leave a crappie fisherman pulled out two accidental bass (one 12 in. and one 15 in. keeper) on an inline spinner, which I don't have any of haha. I was at catclaws for 2 hours and plover for 1 hour at the end.
  12. Thanks for all the advice, guys. I will get out and try it as soon as i can.
  13. Hey guys, I am relatively new to bass fishing and need some help with choosing lures. Not like at the store, but on the water. Right now for me it is a shot in the dark- I usually tie on whatever I think looks good that day. So what I want to know is when you guys get out on the water, what helps you choose which lure in your tackle box you throw? Like for example if it is cloudy or sunny, what does that tell you? Or murky or clear, etc etc. Thanks in advance!
  14. Hi guys, I need some advice. I am going to James A Reed conservation area today to fish. I have been skunked 3 times this season and don't want to make it 4. The temperature is supposed to be a high of 67 today and I am going from 2-5 pm. I intend to throw 1/8 oz jigs and T-Rig plastics at Catclaws lake. I might even use jerkbaits depending on water temp. Any advice on lures to use or which lake to go to? Thanks in advance.
  15. Thanks for the advice, I will slow it way down next time.
  16. You got it, thats the dock I fish at. Thanks a ton for the information, It is really hard to tell what is down there without a fish finder. I will go out tomorrow afternoon and try it out!
  17. I've thought about that, but maybe just doing it from shore. You think there is pretty good fishing to be had there?
  18. Thanks everyone for the advice, looks like Jacomo is the choice but I called there to rent a boat and they are still closed, so i will have to wait. Thanks for the advice! You've fished Prairie Lee? I fish from the second (biggest) dock you see on the opposite side of the lake as the boat ramp. Are there any good jerkin' spots near this?
  19. Thanks for the updates, I'm in a public high school in MO right now and would love a school fishing team as long as it doesn't conflict with baseball . Thanks for your work!
  20. thanks for the suggestions, I will check out the berkley shock and cragslists. Thanks!
  21. Thanks for all the replies and the links from paul as well, I will be sure to try it all out. Thanks!
  22. Hi guys, I live in the Kansas city area. I normally fish a small lake that i can walk to, but my dad made me a pretty good offer. Being spring break and us not going anywhere, he offered to rent a fishing boat (we don't have one) and let us go fishing on a better lake. I have a couple of questions: First, is it a good time of year to go? It would be this coming weekend, 3/15 or 3/17, but we could make it a couple of weeks later if that is better. Next, what is the best lake to go on? The lakes that have rentals include Blue Springs lake, Lake Jacomo, and Smithville lake. Any opinions or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
  23. Hey guys, I need a new rod for my spinning reel. I am looking for something under $50, to be used mainly for lighter lures. I need it to be good for most techniques because I can't afford different rods for each technique. I fish from shore if that helps any. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks!
  24. Thanks for the replies, I will use them this week. It is a relatively small lake, not too much fishing pressure, murky water. Im not sure about prey types but in the summer the crank bait bite is usually on so I assume shad of some sort.
