  1. Just because you are fishing from the bank or a pier doesn't mean you have to "cast to open water". I am sure you know that bass are structure oriented fish and will rarely be found when they are not related to some form of structure or cover (credit to Catt, I have that post of his almost memorized lol). So what I would suggest is to watch BassResource's bank fishing video on youtube. When I fished from the bank I would make a lot of casts from one spot in a fan pattern. Start parallel (as close as possible) to shore and cast a few feet more towards open water each time. This will make a fan pattern and cover all of the water you can reach.. Try fishing off of a point. Look for any change in the shoreline and fish it. Laydowns are great, too. Just because you don't have a boat doesn't mean that you have to fish "open water". Now that you know this, just about any rig or lure you see on this website is an option to catch fish from the bank. Hope this helps. Brian
  2. Thanks for the replies guys, sadly the first one is out of stock at Bass Pro and just about everywhere else. I found one on Ebay new for $100. I think I will get that one. Thanks!
  3. Thanks for the replies guys. I haven't used a shakey head at all really but I will definteley use it my next time out. And thanks Roadwarrior, I will start trying to fish deeper structure and cover. Thanks again!
  4. Hey guys, I have a Pelican Bass Raider 10e. I am looking at getting a fish finder for it. All I really need it to do is show me water temperature and bottom composition (structure and cover). I have it narrowed down to three fish finders. Here they are: http://www.basspro.com/Eagle-FishEasy-245-DS-Portable-Dual-Search-Sonar/product/1204070500432/ http://www.basspro.com/Humminbird-110-Fishin-Buddy-Ultimate-Portable-Fishfinder/product/97460/ http://www.basspro.com/Eagle-FishEasy-350C-Portable-Fishfinder/product/1206110840/ Do you guys think these would be able to correctly identify the bottom structure and cover or should I save my money and get a better one later? Thanks in advance!
  5. It is horrible that we have to think about stuff like this. I had an ipod stolen from my backpack in the locker rooms this year and it is a horrible feeling to know that someone just taken something that you worked hard to buy. I can't imagine having thousands of dollars of tackle stolen. Thanks for the heads up.
  6. Hey guys, I assume most of you have seen Roadwarrior's thread called "guaranteed to catch bass". If you haven't, here is a llnk http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/13845-guaranteed-to-catch-bass/ . Lately i have been getting skunked a lot. A good day is to catch one fish in four hours. I read a lot on the forums and watch a lot of videos, but in a way I feel like i am trying to run before I can walk. I am pretty good at using senkos, but do not want to rely on those solely. So my question is what do you guys think would be a good method or technique (like the one Roadwarrior posted) that is a proven fish catcher, but is more geared to intermediate anglers? In other words, if RW's thread is for beginners, what would you guys suggest for someone who has more experience (almost a year of fishing all by myself) but is still struggling? Thanks in advance! Brian
  7. My confidence baits are a 1/2 oz black and blue jig or a sexy shad colored square bill.
  8. I agree, I use all kinds of plastics, each for a different kind of lure. Netbait for jig trailers, Zoom for trick worms and brush hawgs, BPS brand for tubes, GYCB for senkos, powerbait for ribbontails, and Havoc when i am feeling cheap hahaha.
  9. On a T-rig or jig head? I fished jacomo yesterday and only had a little luck, I am going back tuesday and will try this.
  10. Depending on where you live, and what the fish are doing based on water temp, the shores don't always hold the most fish. If they're in pre or post spawn you would have more luck fishing the first drop offs next to the spawning flats. If they are spawning you may want to sight fish and saturate an area with casts until you agitate the fish into biting. If they are already in a summer pattern you can fish shallow early and late in the day (low light periods) but fish a little deeper during the heat of the day. My last advice is to not base too much on one outing. My brother and I (coincidentally also just got our first boat, too) have taught ourselves how to fish from the internet and it is not easy. Don't expect every day to be like you see in the youtube videos where guys catch a four pound fish every other cast. Hope this helps. Brian Edit: Sorry, I just re-read your post and realized this might not have completely answered your question. Hope it helps anyways.
  11. Haven't you asked this same thing in three different threads recently? I will leave some links if you want to re read the answers that people have already left for you there. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/116927-making-a-bass-spinner/?hl=%2Bkencrow00#entry1284762 http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/117019-bass-spinners/?hl=%2Bkencrow00#entry1280617 http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/116684-making-spinner-baits/?hl=%2Bkencrow00#entry1277386 I promise you won't be able to find any better answers than what people have said there.
  12. I recently did exactly that and love it. Super nice to fish out of.
  13. If I were you, I would either call them for verification or put them in a checked bag. I would hate to see them throw those nice KVD squarebills into the trash can.
  14. Thanks for the advice guys, a week later on the same lake in the same place the same thing happened. I reached for the topwater, then grabbed a rattletrap instead. Got one bass on the rattletrap and then a crappie. then they started jumping so i used a hula popper and caught one, but it was a white bass, not a largemouth. Still fun!
  15. Regardless of where you are or whether or not you have a boat, bass are bass. Any technique you see on this website would be a valid technique to catch bass, even if you do live in NY and fish from the bank. That said, some lures are better suited to bankfishing than others. When I bank fish, i like a texas rig, jigs and any kind of topwater. Hope this helps!
  16. Thanks for the replies guys. I think I will go with the most popular vote, 12lb yo zuri hybrid. Thanks!
  17. Hey guys, it is time for me to respool my fishing reels. I have one baitcasting reel on a 6'6 medium rod and a spinning reel on a 6'6 medium rod. I currently have 12lb mono on both, but i am not completey happy with it, especially on the bait caster. Keeping in mind that anything light is thrown on the spinning reel, what line do you guys suggest for my bait caster? I fish jigs, spinnerbaits and crankbaits (on the baitcaster) mainly in murky lakes. I am thinking 30lb power pro braid or 12lb yo-zuri hybrid. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! Brian
  18. Nice fish! That thing is huge!
  19. Thanks for the replies guys! WRB, you had some great suggestions that i can't wait to use. Thanks!
  20. Hey guys, I am looking to start fishing more deep water structure. The only issue is that I don't have any electronics. All I have is a topo map of the lake I fish that i found online, but it isn't very detailed (3 ft increments). I have had a few ideas as to how to find and fish deep structure: 1. Drag a C-Rig along steep drops or other intereseting features on topo map, find some cover this way, then fish it with a jig, drop shot, or something else. 2. Fish the drops with a rattletrap, spinnerbait, or crank bait. Once active fish are found, dissect the area with a jig or something else. How do these sound to you guys? Any better suggestions or ideas? Thanks in advance! Brian
  21. Can't wait to see how this thread progresses. Good luck!
