  1. Sounds like a good day!
  2. Doug Hannon, in his book "Big Bass Magic" talks about lures' erratic action enticing bass to strike. This is why worms and jigs are such consistent producers, due to varying bottom composition/cover and natural human (angler) inconsistencies, the lure is actually always doing something a little different, like a bass' real prey would do. Relating this to crank baits, when you bounce them off wood, rocks or any cover you give them an erratic action. Think about it: if a bass is chasing a real minnow (or any living prey for that matter), more than likely the minnow will not just keep swimming in a straight line, but take some evasive action to avoid getting eaten. This evasive, erratic action can be mimicked by bouncing your crank bait off cover. That said, it sounds like the pattern for that day was cast and reel, but hopefully this helped explain the theory behind bouncing them off wood. Brian

Another vote for megastrike. Also if you fish swimbaits it works great to lube up the swimbaits for better hooksets and less tearing. Brian
  4. I second the two posts above me. Even though they aren't the rapalas you thought you bought, I personally love bomber crank baits. They just have a fish-catching wobble. Brian
  5. x2, well minus the go pro. I make sure my phone has at least 50% charge, always have the scale and tape measurer, and check the scale often with dumbbells to make sure it is still accurate. Brian
  6. Nice fish!
  7. Sometimes I do. During the school year I just love being on the water, relaxing and having a good time. During the summer, though, I get serious and whenever I am on the lake I mean business lol. Brian
  8. x2. I have a spinnerbait like this and have caught more fish on it (in many different bodies of water) than any other lure I own. Brian
  9. I think that the jig, while it isn't long, actually has a very large profile underwater, especially when the skirt flares up. Either way I agree the Jig catches big bass, after all thats what I caught my pb on! Brian

    x2. Love power worms.
  11. Nice fish! I bet it felt good to catch her after waiting so long.
  12. I think it would be fine to use from the bank. I would just suggest using a strong knot (palomar) to tie on your hook and and a weaker knot to tie the line to the sinker. This way if your sinker gets stuck you only lose the sinker, not the whole rig. Brian
  13. Thanks! If he had been a little fatter I'm pretty sure he would have been a new pb!
  14. As to how long the bass is, it is very difficult to tell. There is no real frame of reference, but my guess would be anywhere between 13 and 18 inches. Brian
  15. I'm not sure if i would call myself a swimbaiter just yet, but I am definetley working on it. I like to read the local reports on that thread, but I normally don't post because I always fish the same lake. Now that I can drive I may start fishing different lakes and checking in on that thread. Thanks! Brian
  16. Megalodon was the biggest load of crap I have ever seen. I love discovery channel and I love shark week, but that was just unacceptable. I agree with Bluebasser, "megalodon" was diving at the same rate the tracker would be falling, if (when) the female diver missed. Also, how am I expected to believe that this supposed 60 ft long shark destroyed the fake whale and the shark cage, but both divers escaped uninjured? Discovery really let me down with this one. Brian
  17. Thanks guys! I was psyched to get a fish like that on my first cast with the Huddleston! Lol i was so worried I was going to do that. I was sure I would either cut the Hudd in half or just cut right into my hand on accident lol. I guess all is well that ends well though.
  18. Surely there is somewhere else that you could fish. Perhaps another golf course in the area would allow you to fish there on their maintenance days. I bet if you put some time into it you could find a new place you could legally fish.
  19. Here is a pic of the Huddelston with the cut off piece of burlap bag still attached:
  20. Hey guys, I went out this morning. I started out throwing the mattlures baby bass and ultimate bluegill swim baits, both to no avail. Then I tied on a 6 inch Huddelston in the green silver/color and on my first cast I caught this scrawny 4 lber. He had the mouth of a 6lber, I would love to catch him with a full belly! So then an ok day turned south. A few casts after the fish shown above, my hudd got snagged. It was an incredibly solid snag, my 50lb power pro couldn't even budge it. I worked for 20 minutes to free it with no luck, even using a homeade plug knocker and putting my rod and reel underwater to try and nudge it loose. As a last ditch effort to avoid swimming, I trolled about 50 yards away from the snag to pull from a different angle. Then I hear a loud "snap". I look down and all the line is gone from my reel, even though I had left the spool spinning freely. I franticly begin searching the water for my line (floating) so I can save my $18 lure. I could not find the line. Incredibly frustrated, I begin packing up my tackle box in preparation to head in for the day, when i notice something is wrong. My plastic boat, incredibly prone to moving in any wind, hasn't moved the whole time I have been sitting, even though I am not anchored and there is a 10 mph wind. I immediatley pull up the trolling motor, and sure enough it has my whole spools worth of power pro wrapped around the prop, connected to the still snagged swim bait. I frantically grab the mainline and pull myself to the snag and drop down the anchor. I decide I am going swimming to get the lure. I take off my shoes and shirt and jump in. At this point I am incredibly nervous, even though I am an very strong swimmer and the water is only 6 ft deep. I follow the line underwater and finally reach the Hudd (all with my eyes closed, the lake is gross). It will not come loose, and it feels like it is hooked on a burlap sack. After a few more tries I get back in the boat and grab my mini leatherman to cut it free. Using the 3 inch blade I was able to cut the burlap bag on my third try and retreived the swim bait! Thanks for reading! Brian
  21. Depends on what you mean by "a rig". I cant tell from your description if you use a Texas Rig, but the texas rig is one of the best method for beginners to catch fish and all it consists of is a sinker, hook and worm (any plastic). Technically that is a rig. You can also rig a worm in a carolina rig, jika rig, weightless, or many of other ways. However, you being a beginner, I would just stay with the texas rig for now. Heres a Texas rig: 2251 × 864 - georgiariverfishing.com Hope this answers your question. Brian
  22. As long as it has roof racks you can. Just buy some ratcheting straps and strap it up there. It takes at least 2 people, preferably 3 to get it up/down, though. Brian
  23. I would suggest yozuri Hybrid for all three, just different weights. I love yozuri for spinnerbaits.
  24. Thanks for the answers guys. Never knew I could over-lube a reel. Washer 71 is present, i probably cross threaded washer 73 the first time I cleaned it, because I'm always careful now. I dont plan on replacing #56, the reel still works it just doesnt look right. How should I flush out the bearings? Thanks. Brian
