  1. Man guys, these are some awesome answers! Thanks a ton! I can't wait to get out and fish those docks this weekend!
  2. My understanding of these baits is that they do not replicate how a crawfish moves, only their color. Then the bass will hit it off on a reaction strike. I'm not exactly an expert but I think thats how it works, but I am sure someone will correct me if it isn't right.
  3. Hey guys, I always see people talk about fishing docks or even skipping lures under them. They never specify, however, where the fish are when they are doing this. Are they holding close (shallow) to the dock, like to be caught with a spinnerbait or rattle trap, or are they on the bottom under the dock, like to be caught with a jig or a T-Rig? So essentially, what lures do you guys use when fishing or skipping docks? Thanks in advance!
  4. I have a 10 ft bass raider (plastic pontoon) and I have a 30lb trolling motor that I got for $100 at bass pro. I use a 12v marine battery. The trolling motor pushes my brother an I (300 lbs combined) and our gear across the lake great. I think 30 lbs would be enough for you in your canoe, at least for the smaller lakes.
  5. That thread was locked for a reason. He was told what he did was wrong more than a few times and I am positive that he now knows that what he did was wrong. Everybody does things that, retrospectively, shouldn't have been done, but thats life. Let it go.
  6. Thank you both for the answers, that make sense that they were schooling. I wish I had had more time and thought to throw a rattletrap or something like that. Thanks!
  7. Thanks a ton guys, every answer brings up another point, all of which are correct. Thanks!
  8. Hey guys, I just got in from a frustrating afternoon of fishing. I had about 30 minutes left till I had to leave, and so far I had (unsuccessfully) thrown the kitchen sink at them. Not one fish on any lure. It was very calm, and around 7pm, the fish started to jump everywhere. Normally I ignore these since they are hard to catch, but today I figured i had nothing to lose and tied on a hula popper. In about 30 minutes, I had had two fish go for the lure and not take it and two fish take it fully in their mouths and go underwater, but I couldn't boat either one. The weird part is, it was right in the middle of the lake. I don't have a fish finder so I don't know whats down there. Are topwater strikes normal for the middle of the lake? Do you guys think this means there is some structure or cover down there? Thanks in advance!
  9. Thanks for the replies, those are both great answers. This is what I'm gonna do, thanks!
  10. Thanks for the replies everybody, there really are some great answers here. This is a really good point no one else has said too much about, because ultimately all the work comes down to the lure that is in the water. Good reply, thanks!
  11. Hey guys, I am working on becoming good at jig fishing. I have caught a few fish on jigs and am about to place an order to Siebert Outdoors. This leaves me to ask the question, when do you guys use a rattle on a jig, or do you use a rattle at all? Thanks!
  12. Nice fish! I had my first two jig bass last week and one was a new PB! They really do bring in nice fish!
  13. Thanks guys, there are some great posts on here. Tons of things I didn't even think of that make sense. Thanks! Funny you should mention that. I went on a guided fishing trip with a former pro who fished professional tournaments for a few years. He said the exact same thing. He said that he had promised himself that when fishing was no longer fun, he would quit, and that is exactly what he did. Obviously he only quit the tournament part of it, but same idea.
  14. Hey guys, I was watching KVD's spinnerbait video when a question popped into my head- What makes professional fishermen as good as they are? I mean aside from equipment, what separates them from the "local legends" who kill local tournaments but couldn't cut it pro. Is it possible that the pros are naturally good fishermen and can work baits good naturally? Is it because they keep detailed log books? Or is it something else? Thanks in advance!
  15. No problem. Your boat looks nice, I am thinking of making a floor like that for mine to keep the fishing deck cleaner.

Assuming the photo is on your computer, you can click the "choose files" button, find the picture, and attach it.

To answer your question, yes, it has been the only bait i used on a fishing outing in the past, which is what made it my go to bait. That said, that doesn't mean I will go to the lake and use it all day if they aren't biting it. If they are biting it, though, I will definitely use it all day!
  18. I voted for the many smaller bass option, just because I fish for fun and not tournaments and I like the action they bring. That said, some days I will throw a large jig all day just to get a few large fish
  19. I have bought a lot lately. A pelican bass raider, trolling motor, battery and some more stuff. When I was at walmart I saw the big bait bonanza and just had to get a hula popper, since they were $1.50 a piece.
  20. Thanks for the replies, I decided to mount it in front, but I can easily move it to the back if I want. Sounds like both work. Thanks!
  21. Hey guys, I got the Pelican Bass Raider 10e today, new. I have many questions before I take my trip to trick it out: 1. Would a 30lb trolling motor work well as a primary motor? It would be my brother and I in it, combined 350lbs plus gear. 2. Is it better to mount the trolling motor on the front or back? 3. What is the best kind of anchor? Mushroom, river anchor, navy anchor or other? 4. Any advice on batteries? thanks!
  22. If there is really that little cover, the bass will just be on smaller pieces of structure or cover. Try the shallow points. Look for a topo map and try fishing any secondary points, drop offs (even one or two feet), underwater humps or anything else you see. If there are docks definitely try and fish those.
  23. When I caught my first bluegill, I immediately knew I wanted more challenge and bigger fish. Therefore I began learning how to bass fish. It is challenging, but there is no thrill that compares to holding that big bass you worked so long to catch.
  24. Thanks for the suggestions guys! That is one of the first things that I thought, It looks like an interesting area. Thanks!
