Lure Color For Murky Water?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I have done a lot of reading and watched a lot of videos about everything bass fishing. The lake I fish is pretty murky, so naturally I want to find the best color of lure for this kind of water. while reading, I found two different answers. One was to use dark lures so the bass would see the outline and it would look natural. The other was to use bright colors so the bass could see it better. What do you guys think, light or dark lures for murky water? Thanks!

Do best of both worlds. When it comes to crankbaits in murky water I like to use Black Back/Chartreuse

June bug is my dark water go to!

June bug, red shad or black/blue.  I personally use green pumpkin a lot in murky water and load up on scent.

A lot of the above, and Ive had luck with gold blade spinners, pearl senkos, and pearl/pumkin ribbontails, pearl/chart flukes.

Lately Ive been using a lot of junebug, or junebug/red in murky water.

Real simple. It comes in two parts though. Water clarity and light conditions. Either one, still match the hatch and go from there.

Natural and subdued colors on sunny days or mid day. Same for clearer water

Darker naturals on low light conditions in clear water.

Brighter color for dirtier water in sunny conditions. In low light conditions i like darker baits with bright accents.

Basicly i say all this based on opinion and experience. The key for me is still try to match what im trying to imitate and then go from there with WHICH color or shade i go to.

large profile lure in bright colors and blacks. And dont forget the rattles.

X3! Solid black, IMHO, is the most overlooked lure color, especially for crankbaits. I've  had success in murky water and in low light conditions with black.

Same!  the only lure i used to have that was black was a norman crappie lure with a pink stripe on the back and one day i threw it in on an overcast day and slayed.  Now i have pleny of black cranks.  If its pretty hot and humid on a overcast day i LOVE to throw out a black jitterbug near grass and weeds
