  1. Does blue loc tite work for pork trailers, too?
  2. After a while it becomes intuitive but here are some of my general guidelines. These have a lot to do with personal confidence, too. Don't be afraid to try different or weird colors. I mainly look at water clarity and sky conditions. On a muddy water cloudy day I will almost definitely be throwing something straight black or junebug colored. Same goes for muddy water with clear, windy skies. Muddy water with clear skies and low wind normally means green pumpkin for me, though. In murky water I will almost always use green pumpkin, black, black/blue, or sometimes a kind of craw dad red/orange color. I don't fish clear water so I can't comment on that. Ultimately, don't overcomplicate it. I have tons of soft plastics, primarily use only a handful of colors, and still catch plenty of fish. Honestly for my fishing I could simplify it down to just green pumpkin plastics and black plastics and be just fine.
  3. RC STX- pro blue racer is the color I think.
  4. You aren't missing much. All the horn on my Triton is good for is my brother honking at me while I back him down the ramp. It isn't nearly loud enough to be heard from another boat if the outboard is running.
  5. I voted for the Stratos but thats cause I don't go very fast anyways and wouldn't mind saving on fuel (150 Merc EFI). If you like to go faster and don't mind the fuel costs I'd go with the Nitro. Either way you're getting a great boat.
  6. Is the thread title correct? I know a thing or two about proposing but not a darn thing about welds
  7. There are bad people wherever you go. Just keep in mind that for every bad person you meet there is a handful who would willingly go out of their way to help you.
  8. I don't totally agree. Your method works well with the rope, but I would advise backing the trailer in to normal depth when loading up. One day my outboard wouldn't start when I was already on the lake and I had to load up by myself with the tm only. I backed the trailer in further than normal and there was a decent crosswind. I basically used the rope method you described, but due to the trailer being in deeper winching the boat up to the roller didn't get enough boat on the bunks to center the boat on the trailer. I pulled it out of the water and it was at least 8" off center. Moral of the story, just back the trailer into normal depth if there's a crosswind. If you do back it in deeper then winching it up may not center it on the bunks sufficentley.
  9. I gotta admit, I like buying different brands and getting the best gear no matter the brand, but after using my Citica for half a year I might be a shimano guy.
  10. What do you mean by "to go with 'soft plastics'"? If you're just asking favorite hard bait I would have to say a rat-l-trap or Red Eye shad just based on versatility. Favorite to fish is definitely a spook, though.
  11. Is it true that running a higher octane fuel can make 2-strokes smoke more? I've been running 91 E-free in my '07 EFI and it runs good but smokes a lot.
  12. Many different things. If its windy, you're fishing deep, or flipping into heavy cover and need weight to get down, use a heavy jig. If it isn't windy, you're fishing shallow, and fishing "normal" cover, go a little lighter. Weight effects fall speed which can effect how the fish bite it-- some days they want a heavy jig and others a lighter one. You have to figure that out through experimentation and experience. That said, I throw three sizes of jigs: 3/8, 1/2, and 3/4. These cover all my needs, but 1/2 is my go-to weight. It works well for most everything I do.
  13. I basically fish a jig like a plastic worm. The main difference is when I throw them. I throw a jig year round while in the summer it is about 50-50 jig vs texas rig worm. The technique is just like a worm-- mix it up. Drag it fast, drag it slow, hop it, shake it, stroke it, etc until you find what works. My go-to method would be just to slowly drag it along with the rod tip with occasional hops. Make sure you are setting the hook hard with a jig. It can be harder to penetrate with than a worm.
  14. Sadly I wouldn't plan on learning anything from the course. I took it online a few years ago and if I remember correctly I spent ALOT of time learning about ocean buoys for living in missouri!
  15. Confuse AK with AR?
  16. My friend has one and I've used it some. The sensitivity is all right. You're not going to feel every pebble but you will probably feel most bites, and Berkeley knows how to make a durable rod (excluding the old red cherrywoods).
  17. I just call my boat "the boat" as I only have one boat so theres no chance for confusion. If I had to name it, though, I would definitely name it "Haulin' Bass."
  18. I don't have any really funny stores, but this one is ok. One time this past summer my brother and I were fishing on our local lake. We had been fishing for about an hour with no luck so I decided to change lures. I was sitting on the rod locker with the center storage compartment open, which holds my tackle. My brother was on the trolling motor fishing a 7" power bait worm T-rigged. I was just tying my new knot when my brother says he's got one. There was no time to get the net so he just boat flipped it, as it wasn't much larger than a pound. As soon as he gets the fish over the boat the fish comes off and falls right into my tackle compartment. I had a tough time getting that flopping fish out of my tackle compartment but once I did it swam away just fine. The amazing thing is that when my brother checked his worm to re-rig it on the hook, the hook point wasn't even exposed! The hook point was still sitting right under the plastic with no signs of penetrating the plastic or any fish's mouth. The fish bit and held on to that power bait worm so hard that he reeled it in and flipped it in without hooking it! I'm sure the whole situation would have been hilarious to an observer. I bet the fish falling into my tackle compartment and me struggling to get it out was quite the spectacle. After all that we laughed in amazement that he flipped a fish into the boat without even hooking it!
  19. Just ask him. I fish with my brother almost all the time an normally I drive and he's on the back deck. Sometimes if it's windy he'll move up front with me so I don't have to kill myself keeping the boat parallel to whatever we're fishing. Sometimes he just moves up front cause it's easier for whatever lures we're throwing. It isn't a big deal with my brother cause we fished out of a 10' pond prowler for a year and totally trust eachother, know when to cast, not hook eachother, etc. Some of the guys I fish with I wouldn't trust enough to fish up front for fear of getting hooked. After all, my boat is only 18'6" so the front deck isn't massive. Good luck! Remember the best way to get invited back is to pitch in money, treat his boat as if it were yours (don't step on seats, slam lockers closed, have dirty shoes, etc), offer to drive the TM if it's windy and he's retying, and so on.
  20. Good call. I got the "scaled down" version on black friday in 2013 and it has been a decent reel, but no where close to as good as my brother's "real" PQ.
  21. Sorry about the title, it should say "what are you planning on getting at the spring..." I'm getting excited about it as it starts tomorrow. I'm going to stock up on Zoom products, Netbait trailers, Havoc Plastics, BPS and SK Jigs, and anything else on sale that looks good. What do you guys plan to get?
  22. Not a bad idea but it would have to be dug in really well to keep the boat from turning in a strong wind. The boat has a lot more leverage trying to turn against two spikes a foot apart compared to two spikes 4-5 feet apart (dual power poles).
  23. Thanks for all the suggestments, guys. Neither one of us has ever tried setting the spool tension like you guys said, so we'll give that a try. If that doesn't work he may just send it to DVT for a cleaning.
  24. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give that a try next time out. That is different from how I normally adjust the spool tension, so that may well be the issue. Anybody else have any suggestions? I'm just trying to compile suggestions since I'm not going fishing until this weekend.
