Shimano Citica?

Featured Replies

Well looking for a good reel around $100 and was wondering how the citica preformed?

I can get it of TW for $120 right now.

Thanks for any feedback !…

I own 4 of them, E and G series and nary a complaint.   For the money, one of the best reels out there in my opinion.

I have a 201e i have been beating the crap out of for five years and she keeps on tickin! Great, solid reel!

Mike at dvt is gonna curse me when i send it to hij for a clean and tune...she is filthy!

I've been using my citica for about 5 months and I love it. It casts great, reels super smooth, and feels great in my palm. I will definitely be buying another.

I'll use it as a before n after promo on my website!

There ya go!

Its bad man...it will make a good one kkl

Is the older Citica E a better reel? I can get one of ebay for $120.

I have both and don't see any difference between the two.

pm me if you're interested in a 200e. I have one that I can part with.

The gander mountains near me still sell new citica es for $80.

Have one of the older and one of the newer. No complaints with either. I personally think they are the "best bang for your buck" baitcasting reel around.

Why spend $120 for a new one when you can buy a gently used one for ~$75?

TW having the Citica on sale makes me think a new one may be released.

I like the Citica G, agree with everyone here.  Solid work horse reel and can be a staple of anyone's arsenal.

I've had mine about 6 months.  Not a bad thing to say about it and has performed flawlessly so far.

I handled them in the store and was amazed how smooth it was for being such a low bearing count.

quality over quantity

Shimanos in general seem to have a lower bearing count than a comparable (say) Abu Garcia reel.

Yeah, Im not Impressed with bearing high bearing counts where 4 are in the knobs and 2 on the levelwind lol. Don't get me wrong, they are nice to have though

I can not speak for the newer model citicas, but have 6 of the 200e's. I always pick them up when I see a good deal. $75 is a good buying price, don't pay the $100/ea that some want. I like to pick em up for $60-$75 and then if you want to upgrade bearings or drags you can.

I always liked the Citica E, it performed very close to the Curado for quite a bit less money.  I use to replace the bushing under the crankshaft with a bearing and change the dartanium drag washers to carbontex and it made for a very nice reel.   I preferred the E to the G, but it was just a difference in how one palmed over the other.

I see some expense savings material and hardware wise in the G vs the E series, but don't think there's anything that will adversely affect performance, reliability or longevity. There is a more stark contrast between the current Citica and Curado.
