Three 3Lb Smallies On The Androscoggin!!

Featured Replies

Yesterday after a rain I went out on this river and hung around where a trib flows in....just about where the river changes color as the sediment hits the main river. There's a nice drop-off. Threw a red-eye shad and wham! Inside an hour pulled in 7 fish, three 3 pounders, which for a smallie here is a happy thing! Going again tomorrow!

Still have yet to catch a small mouth myself!

It's great when you figure them out. You need a measuring station or board with a tape in your yak and then you can snap a quick pic.

Thanks guys! As for a pic, since there was current (a low-head dam up ahead) and I didn't have my trolling motor on, this is what I was able to get.post-44923-0-82804800-1382352789_thumb.j

What are the outside temps like in Maine right now?

What are the outside temps like in Maine right now?

I'm in NH and it has been in the low 60s and in the 50s, getting below 40 at night...

I'm in Freeport, near the coast, and it's about what NEjitterbugger said, except maybe 5% or so less. Shirtsleeve weather for us Mainers....

How late into the year do you mainers fish? When do you put your kayak away? What's the coldest you will go out in your kayak? If the temps aren't above 40 out i leave my kayak at home and shore fish. Nice fish Laurie,Way to go!

Thanks! Actually, a wet-suit makes fishing from a yak feasible until the water gets a little crinkly......but I generally try to stay off rivers. If I go out a ways cause the fish are pretty deep it's always daytime and always in view of something like a road just in case I go in. The up side is that there are fewer waves and less chance of being swamped. It's kind of like ice-fishing without the ice .... I stow my yak when it wont move well :P

No more cold water kayak fishing questions,I am looking like a weenie here compared to you :cry4:I saw your post about flipping your kayak over while you were out fishing, what do you have a sit in or sit on top? were you in deep water? was it difficult for you to upright the kayak with the trolling motor and battery on it by yourself?  You're a tough angler!

No pics?

She has them in her gallery.

CONGRATS.  :blob9:

Thank you Aceman :) Actually, I lost the battery. It was a beauty, too.......an optima blue-top deep cycle. Gel mat. Since it's sealed I tried the next day to dredge it up, but no way. Maybe it's down far enough (12 ft) so it won't freeze and I can call the coastguard in the spring.....
