Flasher Alternative

About 3 years ago I bought a Humminbird ICE 35 (flasher) for ice fishing.  Because the last two winters have been so warm, I've really only gotten about one season's use out of it.  So, in an effort to get my money's worth out of it, I adapted a mount so I could put the transducer on my small boat.  Now I find I rely on it more than i do my regular fish finder.  It's no better in weeds, really but perhaps because of the visual representation (easier, perhaps, for my pea brain to decipher) and because it displays everything in "real time", I feel like I can "trust" it more and have found lots of schools of crappie, and some bass (as well as telling me basic information such as depth, bottom hardness, thermocline, etc).  Does anyone else use a flasher regularly and feel the same way about them?

I was weened on a flasher.  I have one at the console of my boat, and I still use it. SI/DI has somewhat replaced that, but the flasher still gives me meaningful feedback, even if I'm on plane.

Like J. F., I still have a flasher (in dash) that reads at full speed. My bird freaks out at about 30 MPH.

Cant beat em for ice fishing. Watch your jig, see something come up off the bottom and the 2 lines meet on the dial and you've got a fish on. Cool.

After 50 years of using one, I still haven't found anything better when moving down the lake at high speed and still have about a 1/2 dozen of them.

Flasher units are also best when positioned on a steep drop-off like a creek channel edge. You can see the whole depth change without moving around to get it recorded like with a LCR unit.

My first flasher unit (in the 1960's) was a Shakspere unit that attached to the top of a dry cell battery.

I've had many Lowrance and Humminbird flashers since then.

Say there, Ratherbfishing, try reducing the gain and a flasher will show fish well in the weeds.

Will it "weed out" (sorry for the pun) the weaker returns?
