I'm looking for a new setup for fishing matted grass, line will be 65# braid, and the rod will be a St. Croix (I think).

my friend has it and he loves that reel most of my friends swear by quantum im starting to like them little by little

Been following the Quantum reel threads around here for sometime, worst I heard and more than one person said this, the side plate radomly falls off or is very easy to knock off/dislodge, some folks lost them into the drink.

Had one on my bench last year.  Meh.  Fit and finish was lacking.  Was smooth, but didn't freespool at all.  I'd look elsewhere, for that kind of money.  I haven't been too impressed with anything since the old gold accurist or the blue PT series.

It's known fact I like Calcutta's but I'm looking for something lighter but still dependable.

I'd look at Curado/Chronarch E or Daiwa Zillion, or maybe even a JDM Conquest 50.

How about a CH50E ;)

I have 2 Energy PT 4, I like mine so far, haven't been used enough to genuinely recommend yet. As far as loose sideplates, more likely they weren't seated properly. I had to mount mine to a rod to get enough torque to remove it. Fit and finish are above average.

I'd look at Curado/Chronarch E or Daiwa Zillion, or maybe even a JDM Conquest 50.

x2 I can't count the number of Quantums I've serviced that took longer to get the side plate off than to strip & rebuild the whole reel.
