Need help fishing worms in the weeds

Featured Replies

I fish a spot where the weeds are really thick.  You can see holes in the weeds, but if I throw a worm in there, it goes down two feet and sits on the weeds.  I put what was to me was HUGE sinker on and it was still getting stuck in the weeds.  Should I just put as big a sinker as is needed to get down to the bottom?  It feels odd to bass fish with a 3 oz sinker.  What do you guys think?

p.s I'm from shore.

flip/pitch with a 2oz tungsten weight. If you pitch the lure into the sky its falling momentum should help with the penetration process.

I think RW had an excellent reply to roughly the same question asked previously. There may be an some good info under the fishing articles on that subject.

I would either try a weightless worm, or whatever bait your using, or either try to " punch" thru the cover with a very heavy weight.

Peg the weight if its already pegged go heavier. If your saying your already fishing a 3oz you shouldnt have that much of a problem getting through weeds. Also try a flippin weight they tend to get through thick weeds better due to its shape.

If you are going to fish with that much weigh make sure your rod can handle it.  IMO 1/2 oz over the max lure weight is pushing it.

I agree especially in heavy weeds if you start landing fish your gonna be pulling some slop back with them. Just the nature of the beast.

Take one of your paddles and make some two to three foot holes in the grass as deep as you can.

Wait at least one hour.

Return and fish the holes you made in the grass using Texas rigged plastics or a jig and pig.

Let us know what happens.  ;)   :)   :)

Remember to "peg" your sinker on the Texas rig.

Use some scent like MegaStrike or Carolina Lunker Sauce on all plastics.

Don't tell anyone about doing this as it will be our secret.  ;D   ;D   ;D
