Want to hear when yall start throwing this.

Featured Replies

Im posting this to see when everone starts to break out there deep cranks and other deep baits to go for the fish.  at the moment the fish are in the back of coves so when do you think that they will move back out on the main lake body.  Also when they do move back to the main lake body where do you target to catch them(such as points, humps, etc...)

Been throwing them for months. No need to stop now. Remember a fish that's been in 30-40 is shallow out on a 15-20' point. All fish follow the bait. Not all bait runs to the back of the pockets though.

since your mentioning points, how exactly do you fish a point as in do you fish in parrell or do you fish it perpindicular to the point.

I hardly ever go fishing without throwing a deep diver, no matter the conditions or time of year.

Carrington, it depends on the water temperature.

When the water temperature hits 75* to 77* the bass will feel the seasonal change and start to chase the shad or hunt out crawfish as they start to fatten up for the winter.

A 10-foot deep diver is a good crank to start with but have a 6-foot diver ready just in case they are not that deep.

You can also have a deep diving crank on braid if you think the bass will be deeper than 10-feet this time of the year.

You will need to take two or three of each crank with you in case you lose one in the rocks and bottom structure.

Try a Sexy Shad followed by a Shad Rap DT shad with the yellow line down its side.

And don't forget your Caroline rig.  Give that a try over rocks, by bridges, along and to and from riprap and around rocky points.

When fishing a point you can fish it across or up and down. Depends where you position the boat and the make up of the point and the rocks around it.

The bass will tell you what they want and at what depth. This is why you try a number of crankbait presentations on rocks, to the bank, in the grass (green grass this time of year is the best if you can find it) and around docks and piers.

This weekend we will be having air temps in the 50s but the water temperatures may be in the upper 70's which means the bass will start to migrate to their feeding grounds, like the backs and mouths of creeks.

Since it will be a sunny day, some bass will go under the docks and piers while others will swim in the sun along the shore line.

Due to the current rain we had the bass may also be seeking clean water. So always look for clean water if you can find it.

Your job is to find the shad; then the bass; and then what they want to eat.

I will be coming to the Wake Forest game so let me know about the campus ponds.

Thanks.

i forgot about those ponds, every chance i get to fish i go out on the boat and head to claytor.  trying to learn that lake since thats where alot of the club tournys are held.  i have learned a little but i still have alot that i dont know.

Do you have a map of the lake?

Have you studied it?

Used a magnifying glass to pick up the details?

Used color pens to mark the map with interesting places that may hold fish?

Fishing a new lake takes a lot of study. One does not just go out and start to fish a new body of water until you:

1.  Study a map.

2.  Go on line to see what you can find out about the place.

3.  Speak to some old timers who fish the lake.

4.  Review the baits you are considering throwing.

5.  Review the techniques you are considering using.

6.  Re-spool all reels using KVD's Lure and Line Conditioning to soften line and remove any memory.

7.  Think about what you are going to throw and when. For instance, start with a Popper or buzzbait and have a Senko ready to throw if the bass misses the topwater.

8.  Think about your clothes and shoes and bring a rani suit just in case.

9.  Put your polarized sunglasses, glasses strap, watch, etc. together so you won't forget them.

10.  Get your lunch, snacks and drinks ready.

Carrington, you have a lot to do to get ready to fish a tournament, even if you are a nonboater. The above is just a sampler.

So pick up a map of Claytor if you do not have one and start studying the map and making plans between classes, football games, parties, chasing girls, maybe catching a girl, studying for real classes and having a good time with your new friends.

Topwaters in the early AM or late PM.

Tonight at the Salisbury Club ponds we got nothing on buzzbaits but they did hit the Pop-Rs.

Gortex is great. What color did you get?  Big Bird Yellow; Elmo Blue or Fire Engine Red?????  ;D   ;)   ;D

i got the midnight blue, i believe thats the name, its the 100mph jacket

  • Super User

Super!

I am sure you will look good in it and keep warm and dry.  ;)

  • Author

for warmness the jacket is only good down to about 45-50 degrees.  but for rain it is exelent.  i would def recommend it.

Go to Wal-Mart and get the top and bottoms of the Starter Dry-Star.

They will keep you warm.

I have a pair in white and a pair in black.

These are the Under Armor knock offs and they cost $10 for the top and $10 for the bottom.

Get them two sizes too big so they will not be tight on you.

Have your girlfriend cut out and sew a fly in the pants.  ;D   ;D   ;D

are they waterproof?  if not ill just deal with jeans till i can get something waterproof

  • Super User

No, they are not waterproof but they will keep you warm.

You wear them over your regular underwear to keep legs and arms warm.

Check them out when you go to Wal-Mart of see the Under Armor versions at Dicks Sporting Goods or on the Internet.

Now stop screwing around on this web site and do some homework!!!!!!!  ;)   :)   :)

They are a base layer.  They insulate, and wick off persiration, keeping you warm and dry.  Jeans?  Cotton kills.
