Rage Tail Baby Craw hook type/size?

Featured Replies

Been using the Baby Craw as a jig trailer but thinking of trying it alone. What size and type of hook to match it with?

THANKS

Try it with a  Gammy 3/0 heavy wire, or a  1/16oz keel weighted hook. They also go nicely on small round jig heads. My favorite is still on a swim jig, finesse jig, or Chatterbait trailer.

Texas rigged,3/0 ewg gammy! My favorite plastic this year!Caught maybe 20% of my smallmouth on the baby craw this year. :);)

1/0 EWG :;) gammy. Honestly cannot see how a 3/0 would even fit into this bait.Just me though I like a little action to my plastic.

I use standard 2/0 or 3/0 Owner offset round bend hooks for them when Tx. rigging or flipping. Any small jig even 1/8 oz will still fall with plenty of flapping action.

Agreed. And i don't think you could get advice from a better place.

For baby, I'll use a 1/0 or 2/0 ewg gamakatsu hook. I prefer the 2/0 as it leaves a little more space for the craw to move to to allow for a better hook set. For the larger craw, I like the 3/0 ewg gamakatsu.

I love the rage craws, they're my confidence bait. I like weightless as the possibilities are endless and I have found that bass like the slower fall action. I also like the weighted hook from the same brand in 1/8 or 3/16. It gives a more natural bottom swim action that was given some good strikes. This past weekend, I threw a Craw on a 1/8 chompers shakey head! I caught 2 bass in 10 minutes. I've also tried t-rigged, which hasn't been productive.

I either drag the craw on the bottom slow-to moderate retrieve, slow yo-yo action, or I'll swim it at a steady retrieve middle to top of the water.

I am a HUGE fane of the rage craws!

Well, this guy might know something...

However, I'm using a 1/0 Owner (live) bait hook with some

success. I fish The Baby T-rigged, split shot and as a jig trailer.

Unfortunately, I have become addicted this spring-summer and

have had a hard time fishing anything else. Now it's smallmouth

season and I don't know what to do!

Someone on here gave me the idea of using the rage tail craw on a jig as a trailer. It's expensive as heck, but that sucker is fire in the water. Love the action of the craw and so do the fish from my experience.  ;)

Yup for a little bit bigger of a presentation you can't beat it. One of my favorite trailers, that and the rage chunk. Great action.

Weighted swimbaits hooks are a great way to rig the baby craw. Especially in the fall, the smallmouth love the horizontal fall you get with this set up!

Another technique to try is put a 'sluggo' hook on them (straight shanked offset hook) and use them as a finesse topwater bait.

I got 2/0 EWG hooks. I tried the baby craw set-up today I didnt get anything. I tried SPRO frog, jig/craw, shaky worm nothing. Tried for gills with waxies even that was sloooww. I managed one 6" bass with waxworm.

75 bright blue skies very little wind very clear water =tuff.
