Friends You Like To Hate

Featured Replies

Right now as I'm sitting at work watching the snow come down, and my season is over, my buddy who lives in Florida went out on an a air boat charter on Lake Okeechobee. Him along with three other fellers are killing it right now. He keeps on sending me updates every hour. They have been out for three hours and already caught fifty plus bass. I'm gonna have to start photo shopping my face over his to just make me feel better. This situation might put a strain on our friendship, but i don't want him to stop sending me pics because i Need my fix. God i hate him right now. Well at least i know what I'll be doing when i come down to visit this winter.

It's a myth, there ain't no fish in Florida, don't feel bad.

Yeah, and how about those guys who go to Lake Baccarac in Mexico and show all the 8-10 pound bass they catch every. single. day.  :eyebrows:

Sometimes I wished I never moved. AAAGH! The power women have.

They also pay a pretty penny to get those 8-10lbs

His buddy has the same shot at them for thousands less lol

I'm taking that trip to Mexico in the near future though lol

When my house is empty (i.e., boys in college and with jobs), I'll try to convince my wife to either let me go, or go with me. It's on my bucket list.

Although, by that time, I bet the 8-10 pounders will be too smart to be caught. That'd be just my luck. 00mod, A-Jay, you, and the rest will have ruined it for me, LOL.  :cry4:

I told my girlfriend who is also the mother of my child that when we get married I am taking her to Mexico on our honey moon... She laughed and was like yeah right you think I'm stupid I know about that lake you are always talking about from the bass website. Lol I tried. But she enjoys fishing too so when our son is older I have a feeling we will be taking a family trip.

Big O. Man, I love the guy, but he gets to fish some trophy waters, quite often, at all the right times.  I'm not jealous, and "hate" is definitely the wrong word, but I'd love to be in that position, as to target potential world records every time on the water! Sometimes, I get to do it with him, and those are my favorite fishing trips of the year.

I wasn't being literal. He's one of my best friends. We used to go fishing all the time till I moved to NJ. We go fishing whenever I come and visit, which hopefully will be sometime this Winter.

I know what you are going through. Three years ago, when I had shoulder surgery I was getting detailed fishing reports from the guys I work with. What finally did me in was when my Dad asked me to go fishing with him and sit in the boat. He wanted me to take pictures when he caught a bass.

Ouch, that probably hurt more than the surgery recovery

That's the reason I will not live where the water freezes. Don't put my boat up but use it year round. Pickwick may not be the best, but I would not trade it for anything if I had to move. :eyebrows:

He just sent me a pic of Jimmy Houston holding a huge bucket mouth on the same air boat, and i was "you sob you got to fish with him too" I thought what did i do to deserve this torture. After a long pause he replied that he didn't, but that Jimmy Houston filmed his show there with the same guide last week. Jimmy only caught 75 total my buddy caught 150 total in the same area.

I'll get over it. The good thing is my family lives down there anyway, and I'll have a place to stay whenever i want.

Don't hate or not jealous of anyone, I get to fish every day.  I am a bit envious of people that fish in areas with a better fishery.  I can think of places in Florida from a fishing standpoint I'd rather live, but I can drive to those places.  I really have nothing to complain about.

You know Florida and all these warmer weather areas may have great largemouth bass fishing, but I would never trade the variety that we have in the North for it.  In a year I may catch Smallmouth, Largemouth, Musky, Steelhead, Trout, Northern Pike, and Walleye.  Also year round fishing can be had in the North.  Come winter when my boat is packed away, I break out the fly rod and hit all the open streams or tributaries.  That allows me to get my fishing fix and I really learned to appreciate the solitude that fishing a stream in 30 degree temp. gives me.  Don't be jealous and just expand your horizons.  If he sends you a picture of a 5 pound bass caught off of an Airboat in Florida, you send him a picture of a 22 inch Brown Trout you caught out of a tranquil stream.  In that instance, I personally would take that trout.  Now if he is sending you pictures of 10 pounders, that is a whole other story...

I understand we have all these great fish up North, It just that  i'm just addicted to bass right now.  If I had more time during these short days and didn't have to worry about being home and helping my wife take care of our son. I would be out there slow rolling it like a MoFo. I just don't have the time to slow fish yet. In the warmer days the fish strike alot more frequent which means I have better chance of getting hooked in a shorter period of time. To make it worse I can only bank fish. Now if I had a boat with a finder thats a different story altogether.
